GTA 6 on Nintendo Switch 2? Nintendo Responds to Growing Questions

Grand Theft Auto 6 is approaching its November 19 release, but Nintendo Switch 2 owners are still wondering whether Rockstar Games will bring the highly anticipated title to Nintendo’s latest console.

For now, GTA 6 remains confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have not announced a Nintendo Switch 2 version, leaving fans without a clear answer.

However, Nintendo has now addressed the situation, making it clear that the decision rests with Rockstar and Take-Two.

Nintendo Responds to GTA 6 Switch 2 Questions

Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard recently addressed questions about GTA 6 potentially arriving on the Switch 2.

Rather than confirming or denying a future release, Pritchard explained that the decision belongs to the game’s publisher and developer.

“That’s going to be a conversation for Take Two and Rockstar, but nothing to announce on my end at this time.”

The statement leaves the door open for a potential Switch 2 release. However, it also confirms that Nintendo currently has nothing to share regarding the game.

For Nintendo fans hoping to explore Leonida on a handheld console, the waiting game continues.

Could Nintendo Switch 2 Actually Run GTA 6?

One of the biggest questions surrounding a potential Switch 2 version concerns hardware limitations.

Grand Theft Auto 6 promises an enormous open world, detailed environments, advanced lighting, and highly populated locations. Rockstar has also demonstrated impressive improvements to character animations and environmental interactions.

Running such a demanding game on Nintendo’s hybrid console could present considerable challenges.

However, the Switch 2 has already demonstrated that demanding modern games can reach Nintendo hardware.

Titles such as Cyberpunk 2077 and Resident Evil Requiem show that developers can adapt visually impressive experiences for the platform.

That does not automatically mean GTA 6 would receive the same treatment.

Rockstar would likely need to make significant adjustments to resolution, graphical settings, and potentially performance targets to accommodate the hardware.

Whether those compromises would meet Rockstar’s standards remains unknown.

Rockstar Has Supported Nintendo Before

Although GTA 6 has not been announced for Switch 2, Rockstar Games is certainly no stranger to Nintendo platforms.

Several Grand Theft Auto titles have appeared on Nintendo hardware, including games featured in Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition.

Red Dead Redemption has also received Nintendo releases, demonstrating Rockstar’s willingness to bring older titles to the platform.

However, one major exception remains Grand Theft Auto V.

Despite becoming one of the most successful games in history, GTA V never received an official release on the original Nintendo Switch.

That history makes it difficult to predict whether Rockstar will consider Nintendo’s latest hardware for GTA 6.

What About GTA 6 on PC?

Nintendo Switch 2 owners are not the only players waiting for additional platform announcements.

PC players are also without a confirmed release date.

Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has previously emphasized the importance of PC gaming to the company. Nevertheless, Rockstar has not officially announced a PC version of GTA 6.

Rockstar has historically released several major titles on consoles before introducing PC versions later.

Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 both followed this approach.

Consequently, a similar release strategy for GTA 6 would not be surprising, although nothing has been confirmed.

GTA 6 Could Dominate the Holiday Season

With GTA 6 currently scheduled for November 19, its release places the game directly within the holiday shopping season.

The launch is expected to generate enormous attention, potentially increasing demand for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles.

A Nintendo Switch 2 version would undoubtedly expand the game’s potential audience. However, Rockstar does not necessarily need another platform to make GTA 6 a commercial success.

Meanwhile, Nintendo has its own major holiday releases planned, including the upcoming remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on November 5.

Both games could attract considerable attention during November, even without sharing the same platforms.

Will GTA 6 Ever Come to Nintendo Switch 2?

At this stage, nobody outside Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive can provide a definitive answer.

Nintendo has not ruled out the possibility, but it has not announced anything either.

The technical challenges could prove significant, especially if Rockstar wants to preserve the game’s ambitious open-world experience.

A later release, potentially featuring additional optimization, remains a possibility rather than a confirmed plan.

For now, players wanting to experience GTA 6 at launch will need a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S.

Nintendo Switch 2 owners will simply have to wait and see whether Rockstar eventually decides to bring Leonida to Nintendo’s hybrid console.
