Pokemon Pokopia has officially passed five million copies sold worldwide, giving the Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive another major milestone just months after its release. The achievement further establishes the life-sim adventure as one of the most successful Pokemon spinoffs in recent years.
Pokemon Pokopia launched exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on March 5, 2026. Releasing on relatively new hardware could have limited its potential audience. Instead, the game quickly attracted millions of players and received strong reviews from critics.
With more downloadable content already planned, Pokemon Pokopia’s journey is also far from finished.
Pokemon Pokopia Sales Pass Five Million
Pokemon Pokopia has now sold more than five million physical and digital copies worldwide.
The milestone represents substantial growth compared with Nintendo’s previous official financial figures. In its Q1 FY2027 report, Nintendo recorded at least 3.68 million copies of Pokemon Pokopia sold.
At that point, it ranked fourth among major Nintendo Switch 2 releases included in the figures:
- Mario Kart World – 15.39 million
- Donkey Kong Bananza – 4.78 million
- Pokemon Legends: Z-A – 3.99 million
- Pokemon Pokopia – 3.68 million
Pokopia’s new five-million milestone means those rankings may have changed since Nintendo published the report. However, updated sales figures for the other games will be needed before a current ranking can be established.
Nevertheless, reaching five million copies is an impressive result for a Pokemon spinoff released exclusively on Nintendo’s newest console.
Pokopia Is Already Beating Recent Pokemon Spinoffs
Naturally, Pokemon Pokopia remains far behind the enormous sales generated by mainline Pokemon releases such as Pokemon Scarlet and Violet or Pokemon Sword and Shield.
However, comparing Pokopia with other Pokemon spinoffs paints a much more impressive picture.
New Pokemon Snap reached approximately 2.74 million copies, while Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX sold around 1.99 million copies. Pokopia has already comfortably surpassed both games.
That makes its five-million milestone particularly significant. Pokemon spinoffs rarely reach the same commercial heights as the franchise’s mainline RPGs, but Pokopia appears to have found a sizable audience of its own.
Its performance is even more notable because Nintendo Switch 2 still has a much smaller potential install base than the original Nintendo Switch accumulated during its lifetime.
Critics Have Also Praised Pokemon Pokopia
Sales are only part of Pokopia’s success story.
The game received strong reviews when it launched in March. On OpenCritic, Pokemon Pokopia currently holds a Top Critic Average of 89, alongside a 97% critic recommendation rate.
Those scores place it among the highest-rated games released during 2026, with Pokopia ranking sixth on OpenCritic’s list at the time of writing.
GameRant also awarded Pokemon Pokopia a 9/10, describing the game as being on par with some of the best life-simulation titles and calling it a must-buy for Nintendo Switch 2 owners.
The combination of strong reviews and growing sales suggests Pokopia has managed to reach beyond players who simply wanted another Pokemon game.
Instead, its mixture of Pokemon, building, exploration, and life-simulation mechanics appears to have given the spinoff its own identity.
Bubbly Basin Expands Pokemon Pokopia
Nintendo and The Pokemon Company aren’t finished with the game either.
The first paid expansion, Bubbly Basin, has already expanded Pokopia with an underwater location to explore. The DLC introduces additional residents, building blocks, cosmetics, and other content for players working on their settlements.
Bubbly Basin is only the beginning of the game’s paid post-launch roadmap.
Two additional DLC releases are currently planned. The second expansion is expected to arrive in late 2026 and will introduce more wearable accessories, while a third expansion is planned for 2027.
All three DLC packs are included as part of the Pokemon Pokopia Expansion Pass.
The continued rollout gives Nintendo an opportunity to maintain interest in Pokopia well beyond its initial release window. It could also push lifetime sales considerably higher if new content continues bringing players back.
Pokemon Pokopia Has Become a Major Switch 2 Success
Five million copies might seem modest when compared with the staggering numbers achieved by Pokemon’s mainline games, but that comparison doesn’t tell the full story.
Pokopia is a spinoff built around a different style of gameplay, and it launched exclusively on hardware that had only been available for a relatively short period.
Despite those limitations, the game has already outsold several recent Pokemon spinoffs while earning some of the strongest reviews of the year.
With two more DLC releases still ahead, five million copies may only represent the beginning of Pokemon Pokopia’s long-term success.
