Nintendo has started issuing a fresh warning to Nintendo Switch 2 players and potential buyers as a major price increase approaches. The company is now using Switch 2 demo kiosks at retailers to remind customers that the console will become more expensive on September 1.
The warning comes after Nintendo officially confirmed the price adjustment earlier this year. Despite the Switch 2 becoming a huge commercial success since its 2025 launch, Nintendo has been unable to completely avoid the rising costs affecting the wider hardware industry.
Switch 2 Kiosks Are Warning Customers About the Price Increase
Nintendo appears determined to make sure customers know about the upcoming change.
Switch 2 demonstration kiosks spotted at retailers are now displaying warnings about the September price increase. Instead of simply advertising games and hardware features, the systems are actively informing shoppers that the current pricing will soon disappear.
The timing makes sense. With September 1 quickly approaching, players only have the remainder of August to purchase a Switch 2 at its existing recommended price in affected markets.
Nintendo originally announced the increases in May. According to the company’s official announcement, the changes reflect broader shifts in market conditions that Nintendo expects to continue affecting its business over the medium to long term.
Nintendo Switch 2 Price Increase
The most noticeable change will occur in the United States.
The standard Nintendo Switch 2 currently carries an MSRP of $449.99. Beginning September 1, that price will increase to:
$499.99
That represents a $50 increase less than a year and a half after the console originally launched.
Canada is receiving a similar increase:

New price: C$679.99
European customers are also affected. The Switch 2 launched at €469.99, while the revised price is set at €499.99.
Japan received its pricing changes earlier, with Nintendo implementing revisions there on May 25.
Why Is Nintendo Increasing the Switch 2 Price?
Nintendo has broadly blamed changing market conditions rather than pointing toward one single problem.
However, the gaming hardware industry continues to face several pressures at once. Component prices have increased, while memory availability has become a particularly significant concern.
The rapidly expanding AI industry has created enormous demand for memory and other semiconductor components. Gaming companies are effectively competing for manufacturing capacity against companies building AI servers and data centers.
That situation could remain a problem for years rather than months.
Nintendo recently warned investors that memory-related inflation could significantly increase its costs. Other companies throughout the gaming and technology industries are facing similar pressure.
Tariffs, currency fluctuations, manufacturing expenses, and logistics costs have created additional uncertainty.
Nintendo Switch 2 Has Still Been a Huge Success
The price increase arrives despite the Switch 2 performing extremely well commercially.
Nintendo launched the system in June 2025, and demand immediately exceeded expectations in several markets. The console quickly became one of the fastest-selling gaming systems ever released.
Switch 2 has also been outpacing the original Nintendo Switch during comparable periods of its lifecycle.
That puts Nintendo in an unusual position.
The company has an extremely successful console with strong consumer demand, but producing that console is becoming increasingly expensive.
Nintendo therefore appears unwilling to absorb all of those additional costs indefinitely.
This Could Be the Best Time to Buy a Switch 2
Anyone already planning to purchase a Switch 2 may want to keep September 1 in mind.
Waiting until September means paying $50 more in the United States, while European buyers will see the standard price climb by approximately €30.
Nintendo’s new kiosk warnings make the message particularly clear: the company wants customers to know that the current price is temporary.
There is also no guarantee that September’s adjustment will be the final increase during the Switch 2 generation.
If memory, manufacturing, and logistics costs continue climbing, Nintendo could eventually face another difficult decision regarding hardware pricing. There is currently no official announcement of a second increase, however, so any further adjustment remains speculation.
Console Gaming Is Becoming More Expensive
Nintendo is far from alone.
Hardware manufacturers across the industry have struggled with higher component costs, inflation, currency changes, tariffs, and supply-chain problems. Instead of consoles becoming significantly cheaper as they age, the current generation has increasingly moved in the opposite direction.
That makes the Switch 2 situation particularly noteworthy.
Nintendo launched the console at $449.99 in the United States in 2025. From September 1, 2026, that same system will officially cost $499.99.
For players who were already planning to upgrade, Nintendo’s latest warning effectively creates a deadline.
August is the final month to purchase a new Switch 2 at its original launch price before the increase takes effect.
