Summer has officially arrived in Luma Island, and this year’s festivities come with a rather unexpected visitor. Dave the Diver has washed ashore, kicking off a new crossover quest alongside a major overhaul of fishing and several new rewards.
Update 1.1.12 introduces the Dave the Diver collaboration, a brand-new fishing location, passive fishing equipment, a Fish Hatchery, Aquariums, Terrariums, summer decorations, and several quality-of-life improvements.
Better yet, the crossover isn’t simply cosmetic. Dave actually needs players’ help getting back home.
Dave the Diver Has Arrived on Luma Island
The headline addition is a new quest starring Dave the Diver.
According to the developers, Dave lost one of his flippers while chasing exotic fish for Bancho’s restaurant. Somehow, that adventure ended with him stranded on Luma Island.
Players will need to help Dave find his way home. Unsurprisingly, fishing plays an important role in the adventure.
Completing Dave’s quest also rewards players with a Scuba Diving Mask cosmetic. Unfortunately, wearing it won’t suddenly turn Luma Island into an underwater exploration game. It’s purely cosmetic, but at least players can look the part.
Fishing Gets a Major Overhaul
Fishing received much more than a crossover quest in Update 1.1.12. Several new mechanics now make catching fish more rewarding.
One of the biggest additions is Spicy Rock, a new fishing location that serves as the setting for Dave’s quest. The area contains three new species of fish for players to discover.
A new Lucky Streak system also rewards consecutive successful catches. Catching several fish in a row gradually increases the chance of receiving double catches.
Players can additionally obtain Fish Roe while fishing. Every successful catch now has a chance to provide Roe, which can then be used with the new Fish Hatchery.
Fishing locations should also be easier to find. New fishing signs have been added to the map, giving players a clearer indication of where they should cast their lines.
Fish Hatcheries Bring Fishing to the Farm
Players who don’t want to spend their entire day standing beside the water now have another option.
The new Fish Hatchery allows Fish Roe to be used to raise fish directly on the player’s farm.
It adds another passive element to Luma Island’s progression while giving regular fishing trips an additional purpose. Even when players already have enough fish, collecting Roe can still make another catch worthwhile.
The Fish Hatchery isn’t the only feature designed to make fishing easier either.
Crab Pots and Fishing Nets Add Passive Resources
Update 1.1.12 introduces two new tools for players who prefer to let their equipment do some of the work.
Crab Pots can passively catch:
- Shrimp
- Crayfish
- Crabs
- Lobsters
Meanwhile, Fishing Nets collect items that wash ashore alongside a selection of fish.
Both systems continue working while players focus on other activities, reducing the amount of time required to actively gather certain resources.
For players managing a large farm or working through other professions, these additions could become particularly useful.
Aquariums and Terrariums Let Players Display Their Collections
Not every fish needs to become dinner or disappear into storage.
The Summer Update introduces an Aquarium, allowing players to display some of their favorite catches around their property.
Critter collectors haven’t been forgotten either. The new Terrarium provides a dedicated place to display creatures collected during adventures across Luma Island.
Together, these additions provide players with more ways to personalize their farms while showing off some of the creatures they’ve discovered.
New Summer Bundle Adds Beach Decorations
Balthazar’s shop now offers a new Summer Bundle filled with beach-themed decorations.
The bundle includes items such as:
- Parasols
- Beach Ball
- Surfboard
- Beach furniture
- Luma-shaped Pool Float
Players looking to transform their farm into a summer resort now have considerably more decorations to work with.
Luma Island and Dave the Diver Get a Steam Bundle
The crossover also extends outside the game itself.
A new Luma Island × Dave the Diver Steam Bundle has launched alongside the update, giving players an opportunity to pick up both games together at a discount.
Luma Island itself is also available at 15% off for one week as part of the crossover celebration.
Update 1.1.12 Includes Several Fixes
The Summer Update also brings several smaller changes and fixes.
Rare chests now have a chance to wash ashore while it rains, creating another reason to explore the coastline during bad weather.
Skeleton attacks now produce a sound when they hit the player. Additionally, a new audio cue warns players when another day is about to begin.
Several piers have also been fixed. Piers located at the Pirate Cove, Jungle Island, and Farm are solid again, preventing players from accidentally walking straight through them.
Finally, the Wheels of Fortune in Pirate Cove have become more forgiving. Every spin now increases the player’s chance of eventually winning the jackpot.
That should provide some relief to anyone who previously burned through thousands of Pirate Coins without getting the reward they wanted.
A Surprisingly Big Summer Update
What initially sounds like a fun Dave the Diver cameo has turned into a substantial update for Luma Island.
The crossover gives players a new quest and location to explore, but the revamped fishing mechanics are arguably the bigger addition. Fish Hatcheries, Crab Pots, Fishing Nets, Fish Roe, Lucky Streaks, and new display options expand fishing well beyond its previous role.
Most importantly, many of these systems remain useful after Dave’s adventure is finished.
With new summer decorations, passive resource gathering, three new fish species, several fixes, and Dave himself wandering around the island, Update 1.1.12 gives returning players plenty of reasons to grab their fishing rods again.
Just remember to help Dave get home eventually.
He’s got a restaurant to get back to.
