GTA 6 Pricing Study Says Millions Would Pay $149.99 at Launch

Grand Theft Auto 6 continues to dominate gaming discussions, and a new consumer study suggests millions of dedicated fans may be willing to spend far more than the standard retail price. While most players still expect GTA 6 to launch at around $69.99, a significant group appears ready to pay $149.99 for a premium edition.

Millions of GTA 6 Fans Would Pay $149.99

According to research from MIDiA, around 16% of average American gamers said they would consider purchasing GTA 6 at a $149.99 price point. The firm also estimates that roughly 8.6% of U.S. consumers are likely to buy the game, which equals approximately 22.9 million copies.

Applying that 16% figure to the projected buyer base results in more than 3.6 million potential superfans. If every one of those players purchased a $149.99 edition, Rockstar Games could generate more than $550 million from that premium audience alone.

Those figures highlight the extraordinary demand surrounding GTA 6, which is already shaping up to become one of the biggest entertainment launches in history.

Most Players Still Expect a Standard Price

Although premium editions attract attention, the study found that more than 59% of respondents expressed interest in buying GTA 6 overall. However, the majority still expects the game to launch at the industry-standard price of around $69.99.

MIDiA argues that Rockstar would likely earn more revenue with a traditional launch price than by raising the base game to $100. According to the firm’s analysis, increasing the standard price too far could reduce total sales enough to outweigh the higher price tag.

GTA 6 Pre-Orders Already Show Massive Demand

Despite those recommendations, Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive, has already seen extraordinary interest.

Some early estimates suggest GTA 6 pre-orders generated around $1 billion in value for Take-Two within the first hour, largely due to a significant increase in the company’s stock price following the launch of pre-orders. While that figure reflects market value rather than direct game sales, it demonstrates the confidence investors have in GTA 6’s commercial success.

The strong early response also suggests Rockstar has more flexibility when deciding how to position premium editions.

Premium Editions Could Become More Important

Take-Two has already experimented with higher-priced releases through NBA 2K27’s Ultra Edition, which launched with a $149.99 tier. That experience could influence how the publisher approaches GTA 6’s premium offerings.

At the same time, Rockstar must balance upfront revenue with the long-term success of GTA 6 Online, which is widely expected to generate billions through optional in-game purchases over the coming years.

Offering attractive collector’s editions or deluxe packages could satisfy superfans without forcing every player to pay a higher entry price. That strategy may prove more popular than raising the cost of the standard edition while still allowing Rockstar to capitalize on the game’s enormous demand.

GTA 6 Demand Remains Unmatched

Whether Rockstar sticks with a $69.99 standard edition or expands its premium offerings, the numbers show one thing clearly: demand for GTA 6 remains exceptionally strong. Millions of players appear willing to spend well above the normal retail price, giving Rockstar and Take-Two multiple ways to maximize revenue while keeping the base game accessible to the broader audience.
