Twitch is rolling out a new set of parental controls designed to give parents greater control over how teenagers use the streaming platform. The new tools allow parents to manage messaging, viewing restrictions, streaming permissions, and daily screen time for users aged 13 to 17.

Parents Can Restrict Twitch Content and Features
The biggest addition is the ability for parents to limit the type of content their teenagers can access on Twitch. Using the platform’s existing Content Classification Labels, parents can block streams that contain mature or sensitive content categories.
The new parental controls also allow parents to:
- Block direct messages entirely.
- Prevent teenagers from sending or receiving DMs.
- Stop teenagers from livestreaming.
- Set daily screen time limits.
- Manage which Twitch features their child can access.
These tools are intended to give families more flexibility while allowing teenagers to continue using Twitch in a safer environment.
Twitch Accounts for Parents Are Required
Parents who want to use the new controls must create their own Twitch account. Once linked, they can manage the settings for their teenager’s account.
At launch, these parental controls are optional. Twitch is not automatically requiring parents to supervise accounts belonging to users between the ages of 13 and 17.
Parents can also adjust the settings whenever they want, with Twitch confirming there is no limit on how often restrictions can be changed.
What Happens When Teenagers Turn 18?
Twitch has also confirmed what happens when younger users become adults.
Once a teenager turns 18 years old, the parental connection is automatically removed. After that point, the account becomes fully independent, and parents will no longer have access to its settings.
This approach ensures parental supervision only applies while the user is legally considered a minor under Twitch’s system.
