Pokemon TCG Pocket has officially unveiled its next expansion, Ruler of the Skies, with the new set launching on July 29, 2026. The expansion puts the spotlight on the legendary Rayquaza, introducing several powerful cards led by Mega Rayquaza ex.
The announcement continues a busy year for the Pokemon franchise as it celebrates its 30th anniversary. Throughout 2026, Nintendo and The Pokemon Company have rolled out new games, expansions, in-game events, and trading card releases across both physical and digital platforms.
Mega Rayquaza Takes Center Stage
Ruler of the Skies is themed around Rayquaza and Mega Rayquaza, making it one of the most anticipated Pokemon TCG Pocket expansions of the year.
The headline card is Mega Rayquaza ex, which arrives with 180 HP and the powerful Mega Burst attack. The attack requires one Fire Energy and one Lightning Energy, then discards all Fire and Lightning Energy attached to Mega Rayquaza ex. It deals 50 damage for each discarded Energy.
Mega Rayquaza ex also stands out because it has:
- 180 HP
- No Weakness
- Retreat Cost of 1
- Mega Burst attack
Alongside the mascot card, players can also collect Mega Gallade ex and Mega Metagross ex, giving fans of Mega Evolution even more reasons to open packs.

Pokemon TCG Pocket Continues to Grow
Unlike the physical Pokemon Trading Card Game, Pokemon TCG Pocket avoids many of the stock shortages and scalping problems collectors continue to face. Earlier this month, Nintendo addressed concerns surrounding physical Pokemon TCG scalping by announcing additional measures aimed at reducing reseller activity.
Because Pokemon TCG Pocket is entirely digital, players will be able to access the Ruler of the Skies expansion as soon as it becomes available without worrying about product shortages.
The expansion launches on July 29, 2026, at 6 PM PDT, although the exact release time may vary depending on regional time zones.
