RuneScape Player-Owned Housing Overhaul Completely Reinvents Construction

After years of waiting, RuneScape has finally delivered a complete overhaul of its iconic Player-Owned Housing system. The update completely rebuilds Construction from the ground up, introducing level 120 progression, free furniture placement, multiplayer Homesteads, and hundreds of new customization options that transform houses into fully customizable homes.

The rework is one of the largest updates the skill has ever received and lays the foundation for future Construction content.

Player-Owned Housing Gets a Complete Redesign

The original housing system has been replaced with a modern building experience that gives players far greater creative freedom.

Instead of placing furniture on fixed hotspots, players can now decorate their homes however they like. Rooms are no longer limited to rigid layouts, allowing each house to become truly unique.

The update introduces:

  • Over 650 furniture pieces and decorations.
  • Five different house exterior styles.
  • Twelve room shapes.
  • Completely free furniture placement.
  • New and updated furniture designs.

Players can also customize walls, windows, and doorways, making every room feel more personal.

New Furniture Storage Removes Old Limitations

The overhaul introduces a dedicated Furniture Storage system.

Every crafted piece of furniture is now stored permanently and can be placed, moved, or removed whenever needed. Instead of destroying furniture to redesign a room, players simply reposition it or return it to storage for later use.

This makes decorating much easier while encouraging players to experiment with different layouts.

Construction Progression Now Goes to Level 120

Construction has been redesigned from the ground up.

The old build-and-destroy training method has been replaced by a furniture crafting system that rewards progression naturally. Players unlock new recipes through leveling, quests, and exploration while continually expanding their homes.

Key progression changes include:

  • Construction level cap increased to 120.
  • New furniture crafting system.
  • Unlockable crafting recipes.
  • Eternal Furniture for high-level players.
  • Free-to-play Construction increased to level 20.

The new system has also been designed with future expansions in mind, allowing Jagex to continue adding new furniture and features over time.

Your House Finally Has a Purpose

The update turns Player-Owned Housing into a genuine gameplay hub.

New utility furniture allows players to prepare for adventures before leaving home. Potion Cauldrons can store timed potions, Jewellery Boxes provide fast teleport options, and additional storage helps free valuable bank space.

Instead of serving as a simple teleport destination, houses now become an important stop before boss fights, skilling sessions, and long adventures.

Homesteads Introduce Multiplayer Housing

One of the biggest new features is the addition of Homesteads.

Players can create or join a shared Homestead with up to five people, giving friends access to shared facilities while allowing everyone to contribute to a growing community.

Public Homesteads also let players explore other creations for inspiration, while unlimited visitor numbers make large community house parties possible once again.

Easier Access for New and Returning Players

Every player begins the new housing experience through the introductory quest There’s No Place Like Home, which teaches the redesigned Construction mechanics.

After reaching level 50 Construction, Teleport to House becomes completely free. House portals have also been refreshed, allowing players to access their homes from multiple locations throughout Gielinor.

Existing Houses Are Safe

Veteran players will not lose their previous progress.

Most furniture from the old Player-Owned Housing system has automatically been transferred into the new Furniture Storage system. Furniture that has not yet been converted remains recorded, allowing it to be restored if it returns in future updates.

Player Dungeons are temporarily unavailable while Portable Workbenches have also been disabled as part of the Construction overhaul.

Claim Your Free Housewarming Gift

To celebrate the launch of the new Player-Owned Housing system, players who complete the introductory tutorial and visit their house between July 13 and August 13 will receive a unique commemorative furniture item inspired by the original housing system.

With a completely rebuilt Construction skill, modern building tools, multiplayer Homesteads, and meaningful progression all the way to level 120, this update marks one of the biggest changes RuneScape has seen in recent years.
