Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and Black Ops 2 Officially Launch on PS4, PS5 Versions Coming Soon

After weeks of leaks and speculation, Activision has officially brought two of the most beloved Call of Duty titles back to PlayStation. Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 are now available on PlayStation 4, while native PlayStation 5 versions are scheduled to arrive shortly afterward.

The announcement confirms earlier reports that the games would return as ports rather than full remasters, allowing a new generation of players to experience two of the franchise’s most iconic entries.

Black Ops Returns to Modern PlayStation Consoles

The PlayStation 4 versions of both games are available now through the PlayStation Store. Players can once again experience the original campaigns, competitive multiplayer, and the classic Zombies modes that helped define an entire era of Call of Duty.

Unlike a remake or remaster, these releases preserve the original gameplay and overall presentation. Fans can expect the same mechanics, maps, weapons, and progression systems that made both titles fan favorites.

Native PS5 Versions Are Almost Here

While PS4 owners can start playing immediately, PlayStation 5 players won’t have to wait much longer. Activision has confirmed that dedicated PS5 versions will launch soon, giving players native versions designed for Sony’s latest console.

The PS5 releases are expected to include their own trophy lists and platform-specific features while remaining faithful to the original games.

Two of the Franchise’s Most Popular Entries

Released in 2010, Call of Duty: Black Ops introduced players to a Cold War-inspired campaign that remains one of the series’ most memorable stories. Its multiplayer became an instant hit, while Zombies continued to grow thanks to maps like Kino der Toten and Ascension.

Two years later, Black Ops 2 pushed the franchise into the future with branching campaign choices, new multiplayer mechanics, and a Zombies experience that introduced fresh gameplay ideas. Maps such as Raid, Standoff, and Nuketown 2025 remain popular among longtime fans today.

Many players still consider both games to be among the strongest entries the franchise has ever produced.

A Straightforward Port

Players hoping for rebuilt visuals or modernized gameplay should keep their expectations in check. These releases are direct ports of the original games rather than remastered editions.

That means the focus is on preserving the classic experience, allowing longtime fans to relive the originals while giving newer players an opportunity to see why both titles remain so highly regarded.

For many Call of Duty fans, the return of Black Ops and Black Ops 2 marks another chance to revisit two of the most influential shooters of the last two decades.
