Minecraft Finally Adds Official Sitting After Nearly 17 Years

Minecraft players are finally getting one of the most requested quality-of-life features in the game’s history. Mojang has officially revealed that its upcoming Q3 2026 game drop will introduce a native sitting mechanic through a brand-new craftable item called the Cushion.

For years, players have relied on mods, minecarts, boats, or even animals just to create the illusion of sitting. Soon, those workarounds will become a thing of the past.

Sit Anywhere With the New Cushion

The new Cushion is a simple craftable item designed specifically for sitting. Players can place it on any flat surface and simply interact with it to take a seat.

Crafting a Cushion requires three new Wool Slabs placed horizontally in a crafting table. Wool Slabs are also being introduced as part of the same update, giving builders even more decorative options.

The Cushion will be available in all 16 wool colors, allowing players to match virtually any build or interior design.

Although the full release is planned for Q3 2026, players don’t have to wait long to try it. The feature is already available in Java Snapshot as well as Bedrock Beta and Preview versions for testing.

A Feature Players Have Wanted for Nearly Two Decades

Official sitting has been one of Minecraft’s oldest community requests, dating back to the game’s earliest years.

Without an official mechanic, players have spent almost 17 years creating creative alternatives. Some hid minecarts inside furniture, others tucked boats into living rooms, while mods became the preferred option for those wanting a proper sitting animation.

The new Cushion finally provides a straightforward solution without requiring any tricks or third-party modifications.

More Than Just Sitting

The upcoming game drop also introduces several additional features beyond the new seating mechanic.

Players will be able to explore the new Dappled Forest biome, which includes a new Abandoned Camp point of interest alongside updates to existing biomes.

Another interesting addition is the Straw Bed. Crafted from three Hay Bales, it allows players to skip the night without changing their spawn point. The trade-off is that it only works once before breaking, making it useful for exploration rather than permanent bases.

Builders are also receiving several highly requested blocks, including:

  • Poplar Wood
  • Shelf Mushroom blocks
  • Wool Stairs
  • Wood Slabs

These additions significantly expand the range of decorative building materials available.

A Welcome Quality-of-Life Update

While it may seem like a small feature, official sitting has been on Minecraft players’ wish lists for nearly two decades. Combined with new building blocks, a fresh biome, and exploration-focused additions like the Straw Bed, this game drop continues Mojang’s focus on expanding creativity and improving everyday gameplay.

For builders especially, finally being able to place a chair and actually sit in it may end up being one of the most satisfying additions Minecraft has received in years.
