T.R.A.G.: Tactical Rescue Assault Group Returns on PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2

T.R.A.G.: Tactical Rescue Assault Group – Mission of Mercy has officially returned on modern platforms. The classic PlayStation action-adventure is now available digitally for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 via the PlayStation Store and Nintendo eShop for $11.99.

Originally released in Japan in December 1998 before launching in Western regions during spring 1999, the game was developed and published by Sunsoft. Outside North America, it was released under the name Hard Edge.

A Classic Returns

T.R.A.G. is a third-person action-adventure game that takes inspiration from classic survival horror titles of its era. Players guide a tactical rescue team through a dangerous mission, with the story featuring multiple endings based on the choices made throughout the game.

Unlike many games from the same period, progression depends on using the right team members to overcome obstacles and uncover hidden content.

Four Playable Characters

Players can control four different operatives, each equipped with unique abilities and equipment. Some characters have access to tools such as night vision or combat knives, while others are required to reach certain areas or discover collectibles.

Switching between characters from the menu is essential, as each member’s abilities are needed to unlock secrets and progress through different parts of the adventure.

Part of Console Archives

The re-release is part of Hamster Corporation’s Console Archives initiative, a home-console counterpart to the long-running Arcade Archives series.

Console Archives launched in February 2026 and focuses on bringing classic console games to modern platforms. Previous releases include Cool Boarders and Ninja Gaiden 2: The Dark Sword of Chaos, with T.R.A.G. becoming the 20th title in the collection. The lineup is currently available exclusively on PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2.

Modern Features

Like other recent Console Archives releases, T.R.A.G. includes several modern quality-of-life features while preserving the original gameplay.

These additions include:

  • Save states
  • Customizable button layouts
  • Optional CRT display filters

Hard Edge – War Zone Also in Development

Sunsoft is also working on Hard Edge – War Zone, a new 4v4 strategy card game featuring deck-building mechanics, team-based actions, and original characters from the franchise.

A free demo is currently available on Steam, though the game does not yet have a release date.
