Xbox Game Pass Loses Eight Games on June 30 as Payday 2 Leaves After Nearly Nine Years

Xbox Game Pass is saying goodbye to another batch of titles as eight games leave the subscription service on June 30. While several well-known games are departing, the biggest headline belongs to Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, which exits after spending nearly nine years in the Game Pass library.

The cooperative heist shooter has been part of the service since June 2017, making it one of the longest-running third-party titles available to subscribers.

Eight Games Leaving Xbox Game Pass

The following games will no longer be available through Xbox Game Pass after June 30:

  • Mecha Break
  • Payday 2: Crimewave Edition
  • Rise of the Tomb Raider
  • Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition
  • Slay the Spire
  • Ultimate Chicken Horse
  • Volcano Princess
  • Unpacking

Subscribers who wish to continue playing these games after they leave the service will need to purchase them separately.

Payday 2’s Departure Marks the End of an Era

Among this month’s departures, Payday 2: Crimewave Edition stands out by a considerable margin. The game joined Xbox Game Pass during the service’s early days in June 2017 and remained available through multiple changes to Microsoft’s subscription offerings.

Its removal is even more notable because the title became part of the Xbox Game Pass Core library in September 2023. Since then, only a handful of games have been removed from the Core catalog, making Payday 2 just the fourth title to leave the entry-tier subscription.

Slay the Spire Also Bids Farewell

Another long-serving Game Pass title is Slay the Spire, which first joined the subscription in August 2019. After spending nearly seven years on the service, the critically acclaimed roguelike deck-builder now joins the list of departing games.

Meanwhile, Mecha Break and Ultimate Chicken Horse have had significantly shorter stays. Both arrived in July 2025 and are leaving before reaching their first anniversary on Xbox Game Pass.

Game Pass Continues to Grow Despite Regular Departures

Although June ends with another eight removals, Xbox Game Pass continues to expand its overall library throughout 2026.

Microsoft has added 109 games so far this year while removing 62, resulting in a net gain of 47 titles, which is 51 more games than the service had gained at the same point in 2025.

For June specifically, the service finishes with 17 additions and 13 removals, leaving subscribers with a net gain of four games once RV There Yet? arrives later this month following its short delay.

More Games Are Already on the Way

The Game Pass schedule doesn’t slow down after June.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 joins Game Pass Premium on July 2, while Microsoft’s first Game Pass announcement for July is expected around July 6. Winds of Arcana: Ruination has already been confirmed as one of the upcoming additions, giving subscribers more to look forward to despite another round of departures.

Whether you’re finishing one last heist in Payday 2 or squeezing in a final run through Slay the Spire, now is the time to do it before these titles leave the Xbox Game Pass library.
