Pokemon GO is continuing its massive 10th anniversary celebration with another major event centered around one of the franchise’s most popular Legendary Pokemon. Ozone Ascent will give Trainers another opportunity to catch Rayquaza, unlock its powerful Mega Evolution, and earn valuable event rewards through both free and paid Timed Research.
With Mega Rayquaza also taking the spotlight across multiple Pokemon projects this summer, the event looks set to be one of July’s biggest attractions.
Pokemon GO Ozone Ascent Starts on July 25
The Ozone Ascent event will run from July 25 at 10:00 a.m. local time until July 26 at 8:00 p.m. local time.
During the event, players can complete special Timed Research focused entirely on Rayquaza.
The free Timed Research rewards include:
- One encounter with Rayquaza
- One Meteorite
Players who purchase the $4.99 Paid Timed Research will receive additional rewards, including:
- Extra Mega Rayquaza Energy
- A second Meteorite
- Additional limited-time event rewards
Meteorites Allow Trainers to Unlock Mega Rayquaza
The biggest reward during Ozone Ascent is the Meteorite.
Using a Meteorite allows Rayquaza to learn Dragon Ascent, the exclusive move required before it can Mega Evolve into Mega Rayquaza. Once unlocked, Trainers can Mega Evolve Rayquaza during the event, making one of the strongest Pokemon in the game available once again.
For players who missed previous Mega Rayquaza events, Ozone Ascent offers another chance to prepare one of Pokemon GO’s most powerful attackers.
Rayquaza Takes Center Stage Across Pokemon This Summer
Ozone Ascent isn’t the only place where Rayquaza is receiving attention.
The Legendary Pokemon is also becoming a major focus across several Pokemon releases:
- Pokemon TCG’s Storm Emerald expansion launches in Japan on July 31 and features Mega Rayquaza ex.
- Pokemon TCG Pocket receives its Ruler of the Skies expansion on July 30.
- Rumors also continue to suggest Nintendo could revisit Generation 3 titles, including Pokemon Emerald, although nothing has been officially confirmed.
Whether intentional or simply good timing, Rayquaza is becoming one of the defining Pokemon of the franchise’s summer celebrations.
Pokemon GO’s Anniversary Celebration Continues
Ozone Ascent forms part of Pokemon GO’s ongoing 10th anniversary campaign, which has already introduced several major events throughout July.
Earlier celebrations included:
- The 10th anniversary weekend beginning July 6.
- Pokemon GO Fest Global during the second weekend of July.
- Professor Willow’s Birthday event on July 21 featuring a special Pikachu.
- The debut of Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y during GO Fest.
Niantic has also continued improving the game with recent updates, including a major PvP overhaul designed to reduce latency, improve attack timing consistency, and make Pokemon swapping more predictable during battles.
Meanwhile, leaks continue to hint that additional quality-of-life features, including a possible auto-catch item, are being explored for future updates.
With Rayquaza appearing across Pokemon GO, the Trading Card Game, and other Pokemon media, Ozone Ascent looks set to be one of the headline events closing out July.
