The latest update for Pokémon Legends: Z-A has arrived, and Version 1.0.3 finally resolves a frustrating bug that prevented some players from receiving their guaranteed Mega Stone rewards during Season 2’s ranked battles. The issue specifically affected Greninjite and Delphoxite, blocking access to Mega Greninja and Mega Delphox for any player impacted by the glitch.
This bug did not occur for everyone, but those who were soft-locked out of these Mega Evolutions can now claim their missing rewards immediately after installing the new patch.
Season 2’s Mega Stone Bug Explained
When Pokémon Legends: Z-A launched, online multiplayer and Season 1 ranked battles were available from day one. Players who reached Rank K were rewarded with Greninjite, allowing them to unlock Mega Greninja. The requirement took some grinding, but the system worked consistently.
That changed with the start of Season 2 on November 5. The ranked reward structure was adjusted to make Mega Stones easier to acquire:
- Greninjite – Rank Y
- Delphoxite – Rank S
However, this update introduced a bug that prevented some players from receiving either Mega Stone, even after achieving the correct rank. For those who missed Greninjite in Season 1 or were attempting to earn Delphoxite in Season 2, the glitch meant they were unable to unlock the related Mega Evolutions at all.
The official patch notes confirmed the issue, stating that players “may not be able to receive” their Mega Stone rewards upon reaching the appropriate rank.
Mega Greninja, Delphox, and Chesnaught Are Now Obtainable Again
Season 3 has begun, adding Chesnaughtite to the list of ranked rewards and making Greninjite and Delphoxite obtainable once again. Thanks to Version 1.0.3, all affected players can now receive any missing Mega Stones without issue.
Season 3 Ranked Rewards
- Chesnaughtite – Rank S
- Delphoxite – Rank V
- Greninjite – Rank Y
How to Claim Missing Mega Stones After Updating
Players only need a minute or less to download the 1.0.3 patch. After updating, missing Mega Stones can be collected with a few simple steps:
- Boot your Nintendo Switch or Switch 2, or press the Home button and select Pokémon Legends: Z-A to trigger the update download.
- Restart the game once the patch has finished installing.
- Launch Pokémon Legends: Z-A and open the in-game menu with X.
- Navigate to Link Play, then select Ranked Battles.
- The game will connect online and display any Mega Stones you previously missed.
This method works for players who were affected during Season 2 as well as those jumping into Season 3.
Shiny Hunting Glitches Remain Untouched
Version 1.0.3 does not patch the shiny hunting exploit involving Alpha Pokémon in Wild Zone 20. Other known shiny hunting tricks also remain unchanged, meaning completionists and shiny collectors can safely install the update without losing their methods.
Season 3: Zygarde, Diancie, and New Competitive Options
Season 3 also adds Zygarde and Diancie to ranked battles, giving players new options to build around. Zygarde can be tough to counter, but Ice-type moves and Pokémon handle it effectively. Meanwhile, Fairy-types struggle against strong Steel-type coverage.
Pikachu currently stands out as a top-ranked pick thanks to its overwhelming offensive presence, capable of one-shotting most non-Ground Pokémon with ease.
Season 3 runs until Wednesday, December 17 at 8:59 PM Eastern, giving players plenty of time to catch up on their Mega Stones and experiment with new team builds.
Mega Dimension DLC Launches December 10
The Mega Dimension DLC arrives on December 10, with the final pre-launch trailer scheduled for December 2. Fans are expecting new Mega Evolutions to appear, including highly discussed forms such as Absol Y and Lucario Y.
