Arrowhead Confirms Its Next Game Will Carry Helldivers’ DNA

A New Project Built on Familiar Ground

Arrowhead has begun early development on its next game, and according to Chief Creative Officer Johan Pilestedt, the studio fully intends to “continue the legacy” established with Helldivers. While the project remains unnamed, the team’s goal is clear: preserve the recognizable tone, systems, and player-driven chaos that defined their breakout success, ensuring fans feel right at home when the new title eventually releases.

Still Early in Development

Pilestedt describes the new project as being at the very start of its journey. This phase—assembling a core team, breaking boundaries, and shaping the creative identity behind the game—is one he considers the most exciting. The studio is currently exploring foundational concepts rather than preparing for a reveal, meaning players should expect a long road ahead before official details surface.

Helldivers 2’s Ongoing Momentum

Following Helldivers 2, Arrowhead shifted from a mid-sized developer to a studio managing a major live-service title. Despite various controversies during its lifecycle, the game continues to perform strongly and maintains a large, active player base. That momentum appears to give Arrowhead breathing room as they craft their next experience without rushing into a release cycle.

No Immediate Plans for Helldivers 3

As of September 2025, the studio has no plans for a third Helldivers entry. Instead, ongoing updates and community support for Helldivers 2 may extend the game’s lifespan for years, filling the gap where a numbered sequel might have appeared.

Balancing Identity and Evolution

Arrowhead’s strategy seems designed to reassure fans that the next title won’t abandon the cooperative, anarchic experience they’re known for, while still giving the studio space to evolve creatively. By keeping the new project close to Helldivers at a conceptual level—but not tied to the same franchise—they can avoid becoming defined solely by one series.

A Long Wait Ahead

With development still in its earliest stages, fans should prepare for a slow, steady drip of updates rather than a quick reveal. For now, the studio is laying the groundwork for a game that honors its roots while expanding what Arrowhead can be moving forward.
