Psychic Spectacular: Taken Over Brings New Challenges and Debuts

The annual Psychic Spectacular returns to Pokémon GO this September, but this time Team GO Rocket has taken over. Trainers can expect new Pokémon debuts, exclusive bonuses, and an increase in Shadow activity across the map.

The event runs from Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. until Sunday, September 21, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. local time.

Pokémon Debut – Indeedee

For the first time in Pokémon GO, Indeedee will be available. Trainers can hatch it from 5 km Eggs, with a chance to encounter its Shiny form. This makes it one of the highlights of the event, especially for collectors and competitive players.

Event Bonuses

During the event, Trainers can take advantage of several perks:

  • Extra Candy for Nice Throws or better
  • Increased chance for Candy XL (level 31+)
  • ½ Egg Hatch Distance for eggs placed during the event
  • Lunatone and Solrock appearing worldwide
  • Team GO Rocket appearing more frequently at PokéStops and in balloons
  • Ability to use a Charged TM to remove Frustration from Shadow Pokémon
  • Shadow Pokémon caught from raids will have wider stat spreads

These bonuses extend from September 16 at 12:00 a.m. until September 21 at 11:59 p.m. local time.

Wild Encounters

Psychic-type Pokémon will dominate the wild. Expect to find:

  • Abra

Raid Battles

Three-star raids will feature:

  • Alolan Raichu
  • Hisuian Braviary
  • Wyrdeer

Each of these raid bosses can appear Shiny.

Special Research

At the start of the event, Trainers will receive a Special Research line that culminates with a Super Rocket Radar. This item allows players to track down Giovanni. The research can be claimed until December 2, 2025, at 9:59 a.m. local time, marking the end of the current season.

New Shadow Pokémon

Team GO Rocket leaders and grunts will have new Shadow Pokémon available to rescue:

  • Shadow Qwilfish
  • Shadow Swablu
  • Shadow Baltoy
  • Shadow Deino

Paid Timed Research

For $4.99 (or equivalent local pricing), a paid Timed Research line will be available. Rewards include:

  • Encounters with Psychic-type Pokémon such as Ralts, Gothita, and Wyrdeer
  • Two Premium Battle Passes
  • One Super Rocket Radar

Ultra Ticket Box

An alternative option, the Ultra Ticket Box, will also be available in the Pokémon GO Web Store for $4.99. It includes the event ticket plus three bonus Silver Pinap Berries.

Final Thoughts

The Psychic Spectacular: Taken Over event mixes the traditional Psychic-type theme with a strong Team GO Rocket presence. Between the debut of Indeedee, the chance to remove Frustration from Shadow Pokémon, and the exclusive research, the event offers something for both casual and competitive Trainers.
