Scrapped GTA 6 Storylines Allegedly Included Crooked Cops, Drug Lords, and Revenge Plots

It seems Rockstar Games may have once considered very different directions for Grand Theft Auto 6‘s story, according to a new report. With the game officially set to release on May 26, 2026, fans will have waited almost 13 years since GTA 5 to dive back into Rockstar’s iconic open-world chaos.

While the extra development time is likely being used to polish any remaining issues, much of the game is already locked in. But that wasn’t always the case.

A recent article by Fravilys on Medium, as noted by ComicBook, claims that Dan Houser, the former Rockstar creative lead, had once envisioned very different narratives for the next entry in the GTA series before stepping away from the company in 2020. Among the reportedly scrapped concepts were:

  • A storyline with three playable characters: a corrupt cop, his son, and the right-hand man of a Colombian drug lord.
  • A revenge-driven story about a Vice City police officer seeking justice for her mother’s murder, paired with a drug smuggler.
  • A tale centered around a cop and an ex-soldier, possibly diving into themes of loyalty and corruption.

These narrative concepts were ultimately shelved in favor of the confirmed story in GTA 6, which will follow Lucia, freshly released from prison, and Jason, a seasoned criminal with ties to drug runners and other shady figures. Set in a modern-day Vice City, the plot promises to be full of twists, with fans already speculating that Jason may secretly be an undercover cop.

Caution: Leak or Legend?

As always, these reports should be taken with a grain of salt. While Dan Houser may have explored several narrative directions before his departure, there is no official confirmation that any of these concepts were seriously considered or fully developed.

Still, it’s fascinating to imagine the alternate paths GTA 6 might have taken — and fans won’t have to wait much longer to see what story Rockstar ultimately chose. With a firm release date now on the horizon, the wait for Lucia and Jason’s crime-fueled journey is nearly over.
