Mojang has officially revealed the latest major game drop for Minecraft, titled “Chase the Skies”, and it’s bringing a long-requested feature to life: flying mounts. Headlining the update is the Happy Ghast, a friendly and rideable mob that promises to take exploration to new heights—literally.
Take to the Skies with Happy Ghasts
First teased earlier this year, the Happy Ghast has already become a fan-favorite addition. To obtain one, players must locate a Dried Ghast, a new block that can be revived by submerging it in water. From there, players must feed the resulting Ghastling with snowballs until it grows into a fully-fledged Happy Ghast. Once matured, players can ride the Happy Ghast across the skies using a Harness.
This marks the first time in Minecraft history that a flying mount has been added to the game, offering a fresh way to traverse both new and familiar terrain.
Saddle Crafting Finally Arrives
One of the most requested features in Minecraft’s history is also coming with the “Chase the Skies” update: craftable Saddles. Previously only obtainable through looting or trading, Saddles can now be crafted directly by players. Mojang is also introducing quality-of-life improvements for mounts, such as the ability to remove Saddles using Shears.
More New Features in “Chase the Skies”
In addition to the Happy Ghast and Saddle crafting, the update includes several smaller yet impactful additions:
- Player Locator: A new tool allowing players to locate their friends in multiplayer sessions.
- New Music Disc: Dropped by standard Ghasts in the Nether, offering unique ambient sounds.
- Five New Songs: Ambient tracks added to various Overworld biomes for a more immersive experience.
A Visual Evolution Continues
The “Chase the Skies” update follows recent major patches like “Vibrant Visuals”, which revamped the game’s lighting and water effects, and “Spring to Life”, which introduced seasonal mob variants and new block types. Mojang has been steadily modernizing Minecraft’s visuals while keeping its core identity intact.
Release Date and Expectations
Minecraft’s “Chase the Skies” update is expected to launch later this month, though Mojang has not confirmed an exact release date. With its promise of flying mounts, new mechanics, and long-awaited features, this game drop is shaping up to be one of the most exciting updates of the year.
Fans eager to take flight should keep an eye out for official patch notes and release announcements in the coming weeks.
