Pokémon GO trainers have something adorable to look forward to in May, as Niantic appears to have accidentally revealed the upcoming Growing Up event, set to kick off on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 10:00 AM local time, and run through Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 8:00 PM. The event will spotlight Baby Pokémon, shiny encounters, bonus rewards, and themed wild spawns.
Baby Pokémon Take the Spotlight
Originally introduced in Generation 2 with titles like Pokémon Gold and Silver, Baby Pokémon have become fan favorites across media, including the anime and mainline games. In Pokémon GO, these pint-sized creatures can only be obtained through egg hatching, making them relatively rare. During the Growing Up event, trainers will have a greater chance of hatching some of the most beloved Baby Pokémon.
Egg Hatches
Eggs obtained during the event will include:
- 2 km Eggs: Riolu, Happiny, Wimpod
- 5 km Eggs: Mime Jr.
- 10 km Eggs: Toxel (Note: Toxel may still hatch from 10 km Eggs after the event)
All Pokémon hatched during the event will have a chance to be shiny, with increased odds for Wimpod specifically.
Event Bonuses
Throughout the event window, the following bonuses will be active:
- 2× XP for evolving Pokémon
- 2× Candy from hatching Eggs
- Increased shiny chances for:
- Wimpod (including hatches)
- Magikarp (wild)
- Swablu (wild)
- Increased chances of encountering XXS and XXL Pokémon in the wild

Expect to see the following Pokémon more frequently in the wild:
- Magikarp
- Swablu
- Wimpod
- Foongus
- Dedenne
- Cutiefly
- Nymble
- Rookidee

A Busy Month for Pokémon GO
The Growing Up event joins an already stacked May lineup. The Sweet Discoveries event launches on April 24, bringing Applin into the spotlight. Before that, Dynamax Entei is set to make its Raid Day debut on April 26, while the ongoing Pokémon Horizons celebration recently introduced Tinkatink and its evolutions.
