A new leaked image allegedly from Pokémon Legends: Z-A is generating buzz and confusion within the Pokémon community. The image, reportedly showing Mega Feraligatr for the first time, offers a partial look at the Gen 2 starter’s potential Mega Evolution, set to debut in the upcoming 2025 title.
Mega Evolution Returns in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
Set in the Kalos region—first introduced in Pokémon X and Y—Pokémon Legends: Z-A is expected to bring Mega Evolution back into the spotlight. Kalos is known for debuting the Mega mechanic back in 2013, and recent leaks suggest the feature will play a central role once again. In late March, the well-known leaker CetroLeaks claimed that 27 new Mega Evolutions would be featured in the game. Though Nintendo has yet to confirm these reports, speculation has been rampant.
A First Look at Mega Feraligatr?
On April 4, a partially obscured image began circulating online—first appearing on 4chan and later shared widely across Reddit. The image appears to depict Mega Feraligatr, the evolved form of Totodile, a beloved Water-type starter from the Johto region. Totodile has also been confirmed as one of the available starters in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
The image reveals a Feraligatr with recognizable traits from its base form: a stout, pear-shaped body, its signature blue and yellow palette, and a red spiked dorsal ridge. However, it also introduces new, more aggressive elements: additional red spikes and what appears to be a red skull-like helmet covering its head.
Fans Divided on Authenticity and Design
While some fans are excited, others are skeptical about the image’s legitimacy. One major point of contention is the headgear, which many say bears a striking resemblance to Druddigon—the Dragon-type Pokémon from Generation 5. Druddigon is known for its deep red head, and the similarity in color and texture has led some to believe the image may be fan-made or inspired by existing designs.
A few theorists have drawn comparisons to Cubone’s iconic skull helmet, suggesting that the design might be influenced by the emotional lore surrounding Cubone. However, the connection between Feraligatr and a skull—potentially of a Druddigon—remains unclear, leading many to question the thematic consistency.
Waiting on Official Word
As of now, the image remains unverified. No official sources have commented on the leak, and fans will likely need to wait until closer to Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s late 2025 release for any confirmations or denials. Until then, discussion and speculation surrounding Mega Feraligatr will likely continue to heat up.
