Pokémon GO Bug Out Event Boosts Shiny Wurmple & Venipede Spawns – But Only for a Limited Time

Niantic’s latest Bug Out event in Pokémon GO has kicked off, giving Trainers a fresh opportunity to hunt down rare shiny Pokémon. From now until Sunday, March 30th at 8:00 PM local time, the spotlight is on Bug-types, especially Wurmple and Venipede, both of which now have increased Shiny encounter rates in the wild.

For shiny collectors, this is a huge win. Shiny Wurmple appears in a rich purple hue, and depending on its random evolution path, it may evolve into Shiny Beautifly—with cream accents and bright blue eyes—or Shiny Dustox, which sticks close to its usual design but with subtle differences.

Meanwhile, Shiny Venipede shifts from red to a muddy brown. Its final form, Shiny Scolipede, features a striking neon red body with bold blue stripes, offering a major visual departure from its standard form.

But that’s not all.

The Bug Out event also introduces Sizzlipede and its evolution, Centiskorch, to Pokémon GO. Players can find Sizzlipede in:

  • 1-Star Raids
  • Timed Research tasks
  • Lure Module encounters

It takes 50 Sizzlipede Candy to evolve it into the powerful Fire/Bug-type Centiskorch.

Event Bonuses Include:

  • 2× XP for Nice Throws or better
  • Increased Candy rewards from catches (now 4 instead of 3)
  • Higher chances to obtain Candy XL for Trainers at Level 31 or above

Additionally, a Paid Timed Research is available in the in-game shop for $2.00 (real money only). It includes encounters with Bug-type Pokémon, a Lure Module, and 2 Premium Battle Passes. As always, timed research will expire after the event and cannot be bought using PokéCoins.

Final Reminder: This bug-themed boost won’t last long. If you’ve been holding out on catching a Shiny Wurmple, Venipede, or exploring the new Sizzlipede line, now’s the time to jump in.
