Minecraft LIVE 2025 Introduces Ghast Variants in Major Nether Update

During Minecraft LIVE 2025, Mojang Studios revealed an exciting expansion to the Nether realm, introducing three brand-new Ghast variants: the Dried Ghast, the Ghastling, and the mysterious Happy Ghast. This update marks one of the most creative and atmospheric additions to the Nether in recent years, adding fresh layers of depth, emotion, and challenge.

Dried Ghast
The Dried Ghast is a hardened, desiccated version of the original mob. Found in the most arid and ash-covered parts of the Nether, it is far more durable and aggressive. With new attack patterns and tougher defenses, players will need to approach combat with greater care when facing one.

Ghastling
A smaller, less hostile variant of the Ghast, the Ghastling brings a more nuanced dynamic to the Nether. While it won’t attack on sight, it will defend itself if provoked. These creatures appear in groups and tend to hover near warped biomes, occasionally emitting softer cries and reacting curiously to player movement.

Happy Ghast
Perhaps the most intriguing of the new additions, the Happy Ghast is a rare, peaceful variant that emits calming effects when nearby. Unlike its relatives, it does not attack or flee, and its presence can temporarily pacify hostile mobs in a small radius. Spotting one is considered a lucky event — and some players believe it may be tied to future lore-based content.

These Ghast variants are part of Mojang’s broader effort to make the Nether feel more alive and unpredictable, encouraging players to explore and experiment. The update is expected to roll out in Q4 2025, with early testing planned through upcoming snapshots.
