GTA VI Release Window: Is the Industry Clearing the Runway for Rockstar’s Juggernaut?

As anticipation for Grand Theft Auto VI reaches a boiling point, fans are clinging to every potential clue pointing to the game’s long-awaited release date. But while some claim to have uncovered hidden hints, it might be wise to keep expectations in check—for now.

Rockstar Games and its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, have remained firm in their stance: GTA VI is expected to launch in either Q3 or Q4 of 2025. This has been reiterated multiple times, including a direct statement from Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, who told IGN in May last year, “We do feel highly confident that we’ll deliver [Grand Theft Auto VI] in fall of 2025.”

Despite this clarity, skepticism persists. Several industry analysts believe a delay is inevitable. Notably, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier voiced his doubts during an appearance on the Kinda Funny Games podcast back in December, stating, “I would be shocked if it actually made it next year. I think it will probably slip again because Rockstar games always slip.”

So, while Rockstar’s official stance hasn’t changed, the ongoing debate continues to stir the community.

Fueling the latest wave of speculation is the Twitter account @GTAVI_Countdown, which claims the release timing of other major titles may reveal Rockstar’s true schedule. In a recent post, they noted:

“Death Stranding 2 and Mafia: The Old Country launching this summer are great indications that GTA 6 is still releasing this fall, as the industry is clearing the way for it, knowing there’s no competition.”

While the logic isn’t without merit—publishers traditionally avoid launching games alongside a behemoth like GTA VI—it’s still a leap to consider this confirmation. However, the involvement of 2K, a subsidiary of Take-Two, in publishing Mafia: The Old Country raises some eyebrows. Could they have insider knowledge about Rockstar’s timeline?

For now, nothing is official beyond what Rockstar and Take-Two have already confirmed. GTA VI remains slated for late 2025, and until that changes, fans will need to take rumors and speculative tweets with a grain of salt.

Stay tuned, because when Rockstar finally drops a firm release date, the gaming world will no doubt stop in its tracks.
