RuneScape 3 Roadmap Unveiled: Major Updates Planned Through Early 2026

Jagex has officially revealed its latest content roadmap for RuneScape 3, outlining a host of updates and new features set to arrive over the next 12 months. The roadmap details upcoming expansions, skill level increases, and a new boss, while also teasing content planned beyond early 2026, including a brand-new skill.

Jagex’s Vision for RuneScape 3 in 2025 and Beyond

As one of the longest-running MMORPGs, RuneScape continues to evolve, with Jagex consistently rolling out new content to keep players engaged. Despite facing competition from itself—thanks to the ever-growing popularity of Old School RuneScape—the developer remains committed to RuneScape 3, proving its longevity with this latest roadmap.

According to Jagex’s blog post, several significant updates are planned for RuneScape 3, including:

  • New Quests – Expanding the Return to the Desert storyline.
  • Skill Level Increases – Runecrafting, Crafting, and Thieving will all receive level cap boosts.
  • New Combat BossAmascut, a high-level group boss, is set to debut later this year.
  • Seasonal Leagues Mode – A fast-paced XP-driven game mode, inspired by Old School RuneScape, will make its way into RuneScape 3 this autumn.

Havenhythe: A New Expansion Coming in 2026

One of the most exciting announcements in the roadmap is the reveal of Havenhythe, a brand-new area expansion slated for release in 2026. Jagex has described it as a “year-long adventure,” hinting at a gradual rollout of content for this unexplored region. Concept art shared in the blog post showcases a visually distinct new environment, likely to be accompanied by fresh quests, resources, and challenges for players to explore.

A New RuneScape 3 Skill is in the Works

Looking beyond 2026, Jagex has also confirmed that early development has begun on a brand-new skill for RuneScape 3. The last skill added to the game, Necromancy, launched in 2023 and significantly reshaped the game’s combat system. While details remain scarce, Jagex has cautioned that this new skill is still in the “very early stages” and may take years to complete.

Meanwhile, in Old School RuneScape, work continues on its own major update, with the Sailing skill Alpha expected to go live soon. This marks the first new skill ever added to OSRS, reinforcing the game’s ongoing development alongside its modern counterpart.

RuneScape’s Future: What’s Next?

With an ambitious roadmap ahead, Jagex is positioning RuneScape 3 for another year of content-rich updates. While player reactions to the roadmap remain to be seen, these planned additions could help reinvigorate interest in the game. However, with Old School RuneScape continuing to thrive, RuneScape 3 will need to make sure its updates are engaging enough to keep its community invested.

Stay tuned for more updates as Jagex rolls out these new features in the coming months.
