Pokémon GO is offering players an unprecedented opportunity to catch 11 legendary Pokémon for free as part of its Unova celebrations. Typically, legendary Pokémon are locked behind raid battles, requiring trainers to defeat them before catching them. Occasionally, they appear as Special Research rewards or in Field Research Breakthroughs, but those methods still require time and effort.
This time, however, Niantic has surprised players by making 11 legendary Pokémon available with minimal effort, thanks to an issue in the new Raids Timed Research: Road to Unova event.
Why Are These Legendaries Free?
The Road to Unova event initially challenged trainers to complete raid battles to earn legendary encounters. However, a bug prevented raid completions from counting toward the research progress. In response, Niantic duplicated the tasks, creating a fresh set while also auto-completing the original ones.
As a result, all Pokémon GO players can now claim these legendary Pokémon without completing a single raid. While trainers still need to catch the Pokémon, these legendaries cannot flee, making them guaranteed additions to the Pokédex.

Additionally, after claiming all 11 legendaries, trainers will also receive Candy for Reshiram, Zekrom, and Kyurem to help power them up.

For those who want even more legendary Pokémon, there are additional challenges available:
- Completing the new set of raid tasks will still reward players with more legendary encounters.
- Redeeming a set of Pokémon GO codes unlocks new tasks that challenge players to catch 156 Unova Pokémon. Completing these tasks grants extra encounters with Landorus, Thundurus, and Tornadus.
