Minecraft Expands Livestock: New Cow, Chicken, Sheep, and Pig Variants Incoming

Minecraft is set to introduce new livestock variants, adding more diversity to the game’s world. Following the recent announcement of warm and cold pig variants, Mojang has now confirmed that cows, chickens, sheep, and pigs will also receive new breeds. These additions aim to enhance immersion and biome-specific gameplay, allowing players to encounter unique animals suited to different environments.

New Cow Variants: Cold and Warm Breeds

Mojang’s latest update introduces two new cow breeds:

  • Cold Cow – A fluffy, fur-covered cow designed to survive harsh, snowy conditions. These can be found in snow-covered biomes, mountain peaks, and dark wood forests.
  • Warm Cow – A rugged, auburn-colored cow native to hotter regions like the Badlands, Desert, and Savannah.

These new cows join the Mooshroom, already in the game, though fans may remember the Moobloom, which lost a previous Minecraft mob vote.

More Livestock Variants: Chickens, Sheep, and Pigs

Minecraft isn’t stopping at cows—new chicken, sheep, and pig variants are also being introduced:

  • Cold Chickens and Warm Chickens will be biome-dependent, adapting their feathers to match their environment.
  • Sheep Variants will feature new wool patterns and colors based on biome conditions.
  • Pigs, previously announced, will now include warm and cold variants, making livestock farming more biome-specific.

Comparing Vanilla and Modded Minecraft

While these new additions are exciting, modded Minecraft players may not find them groundbreaking. Mods like More Mob Variants already offer enhanced livestock diversity, including:

  • Wooly Cow (similar to the cold cow)
  • Pinto Cow (similar to the warm cow)
  • Cookie Cow, Dairy Cow, Ashen Cow, and Umbra Cow
  • Expanded Chickens, Sheep, and Pigs with unique behaviors

Additionally, mods such as Fresh Animations add idle animations, making animals appear more lifelike with actions like sitting and rolling in the grass.

Other Features in Minecraft’s 2025 Update

Alongside the new livestock, the update will also introduce:

  • New ambient desert sounds, including howling winds and shifting sand.
  • Firefly particles, enhancing nighttime visuals.
  • A new plant block: the Bush, a small lush plant found in forests, plains, and hills.

With these additions, Mojang continues to evolve Minecraft’s sandbox experience, bringing small but meaningful improvements to the game’s ecosystems. Whether these new livestock variants will match the depth of modded alternatives remains to be seen, but they are a welcome step forward for players seeking more environmental diversity in their survival worlds.
