Sony has announced that an account for PlayStation Network (PSN) will no longer be required to play four of its major single-player titles on PC. Starting with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (launching tomorrow), followed by The Last of Us Part II Remastered (April 3, 2025), God of War Ragnarök, and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, players will have the option to play without signing in.
However, Sony is introducing exclusive in-game content for players who choose to link their PSN accounts.
PSN Account Bonuses for PC Players
Game | Exclusive Bonus for PSN Users |
---|---|
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 | Early unlock: Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and Miles Morales 2099 Suit |
God of War Ragnarök | Armor of the Black Bear set available at the first Lost Items chest (previously New Game+ only) and a resource bundle (500 Hacksilver + 250 XP) |
The Last of Us Part II Remastered | +50 points to activate bonus features and unlock extras, plus Jordan’s Jacket from Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet as an Ellie skin |
Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered | Nora Valiant Outfit |
In addition to these in-game rewards, signing into a PSN account will enable features such as trophy tracking and friend management.
Sony’s shift away from mandatory PSN sign-ins follows strong player backlash, most notably in response to Helldivers 2, which faced review bombing on Steam over its PSN requirement. The company reversed the decision for Helldivers 2, and it seems this latest move is another step toward addressing concerns from the PC gaming community.
PlayStation Studios has hinted at even more bonuses for PSN-linked accounts in the future, with updates expected from individual game developers.
