Pokémon GO Confirms Mimikyu Won’t Debut at Halloween Event This Year

Despite anticipation from the Pokémon GO community, Niantic has confirmed that Mimikyu will not be making its debut at this year’s Halloween event. As the Pokémon GO Pokédex has expanded over the years, adding creatures from all nine generations, some highly anticipated Pokémon remain notably absent—Mimikyu being one of them.

Known for its eerie origin story, Mimikyu, a Ghost/Fairy-type introduced in Generation 7, disguises itself under a rag resembling Pikachu. Legends say that anyone who sees its true form may suffer from illness or even death. Despite its haunting background, Mimikyu has gained a massive fanbase, both in the mainline games and within Pokémon GO. However, players eager to see this iconic Pokémon in the game will have to wait longer.

At a recent press conference, senior product manager Kathy Woo confirmed that Mimikyu is not planned for this year’s Halloween event, much to the disappointment of fans. While Woo did not provide details about when Mimikyu might join Pokémon GO, she expressed her hopes for the future, particularly highlighting Morpeko, another unique Pokémon with in-battle changes, as a sign of things to come.

No Mimikyu, but Morpeko Steps In

Earlier this year, Niantic announced the addition of Morpeko, a Pokémon from Generation 8 known for switching between two modes—Full Belly Mode (Electric-type) and Hangry Mode (Dark-type). Mimikyu, with its Disguised and Busted Forms, offers a similar dynamic. When Mimikyu’s disguise is damaged, it shifts into Busted Form, reflecting its Pikachu-like neck slanting to the side, while holding deep resentment toward its attacker.

Despite the absence of Mimikyu, the Halloween season is shaping up to be exciting for Pokémon GO players. Research Day on October 19 featured Yamask and Galarian Yamask, and the first part of the Halloween event, running from October 22 to October 28, will mark Morpeko’s debut. While not officially announced, the second part of the event is expected to take place from October 28 to November 3.

For now, Pokémon GO fans will have to wait longer to see Mimikyu, but the spooky season still promises to deliver thrills for trainers.
