On October 1, the American Red Cross kicked off its annual Rescue Royale charity streaming event, inviting gamers nationwide to support communities devastated by disasters like floods, wildfires, and hurricanes. As the effects of climate change intensify, bringing more frequent and severe weather, this initiative encourages the gaming community to take action through charity streams and tournaments.
Throughout the month of October, gamers can participate on their preferred platforms to raise crucial funds for disaster relief efforts. Whether individual players, professional e-sports teams, or gaming communities, participants are joining the Rescue Royale to help provide essential aid to affected regions.
Those taking part in the event have the chance to win an exclusive Rescue Royale baseball cap and are encouraged to create their own charity streams or tournaments, uniting fans and friends for a cause. Gamers can also join the Gamers vs. Disasters fundraising campaign. More details can be found at rescueroyale.org.
The need for relief is urgent. Over the past year, the Red Cross has been on the ground providing vital assistance to communities grappling with disasters across the country. As Hurricane Helene leaves devastation in the Carolinas, Georgia, and Tennessee, and Floridians struggle with the aftermath of Hurricane Milton, the Red Cross is delivering shelter, food, water, and comfort to those affected. Other major events, like record-breaking Hurricane Beryl and widespread wildfires in the west, underscore the growing impact of the climate crisis.
“These back-to-back storms show how the climate crisis is worsening,” said Jessica Woomer of the American Red Cross. “Communities are relying on us for continuous support, and we’re asking gamers to unite in providing help and hope during someone’s darkest hour.”
Each year, the Red Cross responds to over 65,000 disasters, from house fires to large-scale emergencies. Donations raised through Rescue Royale help supply food, shelter, recovery assistance, and emotional support, as well as funding the logistics that make disaster relief possible.
