Niantic has announced an exciting in-game event for Pokémon GO in celebration of the 2024 Pokémon World Championships. The Pokémon Company’s annual competition, renowned for showcasing top trainers from around the globe, will take place this year in Honolulu, Hawaii, from August 16 to 18, 2024. While only a select few will be able to attend the live event, Pokémon GO players worldwide can join in the festivities with a special in-game event.
Event Details
The Pokémon GO World Championships event will run from Friday, August 16, at 10:00 a.m. to Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. local time. During this period, players will enjoy several exciting bonuses:
- Special Trades: Players can make up to five Special Trades daily.
- Shadow Pokémon: A Charged TM can be used to remove the Charged Attack Frustration from Shadow Pokémon.
- Wild Encounters: Unique Pokémon, including a special event-themed Pikachu in a diving uniform and snorkel, and the fighting-type Pokémon Mienfoo, will be more accessible. Players will also have a chance to encounter shiny versions of these Pokémon.
In addition to these perks, specific Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild, including Mankey, Lickitung, Marill, Paldean Wooper, Swablu, Fletchling, Carbink, Grubbin, Mareanie, and Skarmory. There will also be opportunities to encounter Pokémon through Field Research Task rewards and Raids, with one-star raids featuring the event-themed Pikachu and Mienfoo, and three-star raids including Lickitung, Galarian Stunfisk, and Diggersby.
GO Battle Week: Shared Skies
Running concurrently with the main event, the GO Battle Week: Shared Skies event will focus on the GO Battle League. From Friday, August 16, at 12:00 p.m. to Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at 8:00 p.m., players can participate in up to 100 battles per day, earning 4× Stardust from win rewards. This special week will also feature battle-themed Timed Research, offering rewards such as a wig avatar item inspired by the character Lana, and Pokémon encountered via GO Battle League rewards will have a wider range of stats.
Additional Paid Features
For those looking for an enhanced experience, a $5 timed research ticket will be available. This ticket grants access to encounters with event-themed Pokémon like Azumarill, Vigoroth, and Cresselia, alongside additional rewards such as 25,000 Stardust and a premium remote raid pass. This special research will conclude alongside the event on August 20.
