7 Days to Die Update 3.4.0 Finally Fixes One of the Most Annoying Inventory Problems

Surviving the zombie apocalypse in 7 Days to Die is already challenging enough without having to spend precious time searching through an overcrowded backpack. Fortunately, the latest update aims to make inventory management significantly easier. Version 3.4.0 introduces a long-requested search feature, improved inventory filters, and several important fixes.

However, the update isn’t entirely free of problems. Developer The Fun Pimps has also warned players about a potentially serious multiplayer crash affecting older shared quests.

Inventory Management Just Got a Major Improvement

One of the biggest additions in Update 3.4.0 is the ability to search through backpacks and storage containers.

Previously, players with large inventories often had to manually search through dozens of items to find the resources, weapons, or supplies they needed. This could become particularly frustrating during dangerous encounters or while organizing a large base.

The new system introduces a search bar that allows players to find specific items by typing their names. Category filters also make it easier to narrow down the contents of backpacks and containers.

For players who enjoy building massive bases, collecting resources, and preparing for Blood Moon hordes, this quality-of-life improvement could save a considerable amount of time.

Instead of repeatedly scrolling through storage containers, survivors can now locate their equipment much faster.

Missing Drones Can Now Be Recovered Through Traders

Another welcome addition addresses a frustrating problem involving robotic drones.

Players occasionally encounter situations where their drones become stuck, disappear, or fail to follow them properly. Losing a drone can be particularly annoying when it carries valuable supplies.

With Update 3.4.0, survivors can now visit traders and request the recovery of missing drones.

This provides an alternative to troubleshooting a lost companion or potentially losing access to its stored equipment.

The developers have also corrected an issue that caused drones to circle players immediately after being placed.

Together, these changes should make robotic companions more reliable during exploration and resource gathering.

Multiplayer Players Should Be Careful With Older Quests

While the update introduces several improvements, The Fun Pimps has identified a serious issue involving multiplayer sessions.

According to the developers, multiplayer games containing shared quests started before Version 3.4.0 may experience crashes.

The team is investigating the problem, but players can temporarily work around it by changing two settings.

Before joining a multiplayer session, players should open the General options and disable Auto-Party with Allies, Auto Share Quests, or both.

Once connected, every affected party member must remove active shared quests that were started before the update.

Importantly, quests that have already reached the Turn In stage should remain untouched because they do not cause the issue.

After all affected players have removed their older active quests, the automatic party and quest-sharing settings can be enabled again.

This workaround may be inconvenient for established multiplayer groups, particularly those progressing through several shared objectives.

Several Inventory and Gameplay Bugs Have Been Fixed

Beyond the headline features, Update 3.4.0 includes numerous fixes affecting inventory behavior, multiplayer interactions, and general gameplay.

Players can once again sell items occupying the tenth hotbar slot, resolving an issue that previously prevented certain transactions.

The update also fixes problems involving Shift + Left Click transfers into dropped zombie loot bags and airdrop containers.

Vehicle inventory scrolling has received adjustments to account for installed storage modifications. Missing background textures in scrollable backpacks have also been restored.

Additionally, several perks and bonuses have been updated to work correctly with the revised backpack capacity system. These include Night Stalker Volume 4, Steroids, Chicken Nuggets, and the completed Fireman’s Almanac collection.

Multiplayer players will also notice that the boosted icon no longer incorrectly appears on items without an active boost.

macOS Players Receive Important Fixes

The update includes improvements for players using macOS.

One of the most important fixes restores the ability to launch the game with Easy Anti-Cheat enabled.

The developers have also resolved a rare issue where linking a Discord account could prevent players from logging in.

Another correction addresses a null reference exception that occurred when completing the White River quest.

These changes should improve stability across supported platforms, although some macOS-specific problems remain unresolved.

Known Issues Still Affect Update 3.4.0

Despite the improvements, several problems remain under investigation.

One issue causes locked inventory slots to reset after players close their inventories. The developers are already testing a fix and intend to release it once the necessary certification process is complete.

The Euthanizer perk currently activates without providing its intended effect. Players may also encounter incorrect item-selling quantities and a problem preventing direct consumption of items stored in campfires.

For now, players must transfer campfire items into their backpacks before consuming them.

The developers have also identified a possible null reference exception during chunk decoration generation in newly created worlds.

Mac users playing with the French language selected may be unable to join peer-to-peer or dedicated multiplayer sessions. Changing macOS language settings while the game is running can also cause the application to freeze and require a forced shutdown.

No confirmed release date has been provided for fixes addressing all these remaining issues.

A Small Update That Makes a Big Difference

Update 3.4.0 might not introduce new enemies, weapons, or major survival mechanics, but its improvements address some of the everyday frustrations players encounter.

Inventory searching is especially valuable in a game built around gathering, crafting, looting, and storing enormous quantities of materials.

The ability to recover missing drones is another practical improvement that could prevent players from losing valuable progress.

Nevertheless, the multiplayer quest crash remains an important concern. Players hosting established survival worlds should review the workaround before continuing their sessions.

For now, Version 3.4.0 represents another step toward improving the overall survival experience, even if a few troublesome bugs still need attention.
