Final Fantasy 10 has officially reached its 25th anniversary, and Square Enix is celebrating the milestone with a special release aimed directly at longtime fans and collectors.
The legendary RPG originally launched in Japan in July 2001, introducing players to Tidus, Yuna, Spira, and one of the most memorable journeys in Final Fantasy history. Now, 25 years later, Square Enix is looking back at the game with a new collector-focused product featuring selected music and brand-new anniversary artwork.
Final Fantasy 10 Turns 25
Final Fantasy 10 represented a major step forward for the franchise when it arrived on PlayStation 2. It was the first mainline Final Fantasy game to feature voice acting, while its improved visuals allowed Square to deliver more cinematic storytelling than previous entries.
However, the game’s lasting popularity goes far beyond its technical achievements.
Tidus and Yuna’s journey across Spira remains one of the most recognizable stories in the franchise. Characters such as Auron, Wakka, Lulu, Rikku and Kimahri also helped create a party that many players still remember more than two decades later.

Square Enix Is Celebrating With Music

The anniversary release will feature specially selected music from the RPG, celebrating a soundtrack that became an essential part of the game’s atmosphere and emotional storytelling.

New Anniversary Artwork From Tetsuya Nomura
Collectors are also getting something completely new.
The packaging features commemorative Final Fantasy 10 artwork created by Tetsuya Nomura specifically for the game’s 25th anniversary.
Rather than simply recycling artwork from the original release, Square Enix is giving the anniversary product its own visual identity.
For longtime Final Fantasy collectors, the new Nomura artwork could easily become one of the biggest reasons to pick up the release.
Spira Still Holds a Special Place for Final Fantasy Fans
Final Fantasy has changed considerably since Tidus first arrived in Spira.
The franchise has experimented with different combat systems, worlds, visual styles and storytelling approaches over the past 25 years. Despite those changes, Final Fantasy 10 continues to maintain a particularly strong following.
Its combination of turn-based combat, memorable characters, emotional storytelling and an unforgettable soundtrack helped the game establish an identity that has survived multiple generations of consoles.
The later release of Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster also introduced the adventure to a new generation of players.
