Pokémon GO players have very little time left to take advantage of the Mega Finale. The short event runs through September 6 at 6:00 p.m. local time, bringing several rare Pokémon and Mega Evolutions into the spotlight.
For collectors, this is an especially important event. Mega Mewtwo X, Mega Mewtwo Y, Armored Mewtwo, Mega Chesnaught, Mega Delphox, and Mega Greninja are all tied to the Mega Finale period.
However, getting everything is not as straightforward as simply completing a few raids.
Mega Mewtwo X and Y Split Across Two Days
One of the biggest attractions is obviously Mewtwo.
Mega Mewtwo X was available through Super Mega Raids on September 5, while Mega Mewtwo Y takes over on September 6.
That means players who missed September 5 have already lost their opportunity to battle Mega Mewtwo X during this particular event window.
Super Mega Raids also come with an additional incentive. Completing one awards players a Mewtwo featuring a Special Background, regardless of whether they battled Mega Mewtwo X or Mega Mewtwo Y.
With September 6 being the final day, Mega Mewtwo Y is now the priority for anyone still trying to participate.
Armored Mewtwo Is Finally Back
Perhaps an even bigger deal for longtime collectors is Armored Mewtwo.
The rare alternate form has returned through five-star raids, giving players another opportunity to add it to their collection.
Armored Mewtwo has historically been difficult to obtain because of its limited availability. Unlike ordinary Mewtwo, it isn’t something players can regularly expect to encounter through the standard raid rotation.
That makes the Mega Finale particularly valuable for anyone who missed its previous appearances.
Three Starter Megas, But You Can’t Get Them All
The event also features Mega Chesnaught, Mega Delphox, and Mega Greninja, although there is an important catch.
Players must choose a path through the current Timed Research, meaning they can select only one of the three Mega Evolutions through this event.
This creates an unusual situation for collectors.
Players who attended Pokémon GO Worlds were previously able to choose one of the three starters. The current in-game event provides another choice, potentially giving those players access to a second Mega.
However, that still leaves the third one unavailable through these opportunities.
In other words, even players who participated in both events cannot currently complete the entire trio this way.
Pokémon GO Continues Its Extremely Short Event Windows
The Mega Finale also highlights Pokémon GO’s increasing reliance on limited-time content.
Some Pokémon remain available for a week, while others receive windows lasting barely a day. Missing an event can therefore mean waiting months—or potentially much longer—for another opportunity.
The next example arrives almost immediately.
Maschiff and Mabosstiff are scheduled to make their Pokémon GO debuts from September 8 through September 14.
Players who want to keep their Pokédex up to date will once again have a relatively small window to focus on the new additions.
Twilight Trails Begins September 8
There won’t be much downtime after the Mega Finale.
The Twilight Trails season begins on September 8 and runs until December 1, 2026.
The upcoming season will introduce more Mega Evolutions, including:
- Mega Staraptor
- Mega Chandelure
Pokémon GO’s GO Pass system will also continue, alongside confirmed Major Milestones throughout the season.
Combined with the upcoming Pokémon debuts, September is shaping up to be another busy month for active players.
Gible Community Day Arrives September 12
Players will also want to keep September 12 open.
Gible will headline the upcoming Community Day, giving trainers another opportunity to stockpile Candy, hunt for desirable Gible, and work toward Garchomp.
The event should also make building a strong Garchomp considerably easier thanks to the increased availability surrounding Community Day.
Two additional Community Days are planned for October and November, although their featured Pokémon have not yet been revealed.
Don’t Wait Until the Last Minute
For anyone interested in Mega Mewtwo Y, Armored Mewtwo, or the available starter Mega Evolutions, the clock is already ticking.
The Mega Finale ends September 6 at 6:00 p.m. local time.
Once that deadline passes, there is no guarantee when some of these Pokémon will become available again. Armored Mewtwo in particular has already demonstrated just how long players can sometimes wait for another opportunity.
