Nintendo Switch 2 owners will soon be able to experience Minecraft in a version built specifically for the new hardware. Mojang has officially confirmed that a dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 edition of Minecraft will launch on October 27, bringing improved visuals and a more modern experience compared to the aging original Switch release.
The announcement comes as welcome news for many players who have struggled with the original Nintendo Switch version for years. Performance issues, Microsoft account sign-in problems, and frequent lag have been common complaints within the community.
Minecraft Finally Gets a Native Nintendo Switch 2 Version
Rather than relying on backwards compatibility, Mojang is releasing a dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 port that takes advantage of the console’s newer hardware.
According to Mojang, the new version will feature Vibrant Visuals as the default presentation mode. Players can expect enhanced lighting, improved shadows, and noticeably better graphics throughout the game. Marketplace content that supports Vibrant Visuals will also work on the new console.
The upgraded visuals should make exploring Minecraft’s blocky worlds look more detailed than ever on Nintendo hardware.
Super Mario Mash-Up Pack Gets a Visual Refresh
One of the biggest surprises is the return of the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack, which is receiving a substantial graphical overhaul.
Mojang confirmed that the Mario-themed world has been updated specifically for the Nintendo Switch 2 version. The pack will remain exclusive to Nintendo platforms.
However, the developer did not reveal whether the update includes new characters, music, gameplay features, or additional locations.
Original Switch Version Has Struggled for Years
The dedicated port addresses one of the biggest complaints surrounding Minecraft on the original Nintendo Switch.
Players have regularly reported:

- Frequent lag and frame drops

While Mojang has not directly confirmed fixes for every issue, the move to a native Switch 2 version should provide a stronger technical foundation.

Although the announcement highlights visual improvements, Mojang stopped short of confirming several technical specifications.
The studio has not revealed:
- Target frame rate
- Resolution
- Load time improvements
- Whether stuttering has been reduced
