Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis will officially shut down later this year, bringing an end to the live-service RPG after just over three years of operation.
The publisher announced that Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis will permanently go offline on October 6 at 11:00 PM PT (October 7 at 2:00 AM ET in some regions). According to Square Enix, the decision was made because it would become increasingly difficult to continue providing the level of service players expect from the game.
Premium Currency Sales Have Ended
As part of the shutdown process, sales of the game’s premium Red Crystals have already been discontinued. Players who still own Red Crystals can continue using them until the servers officially close.
Square Enix also confirmed that new events, campaigns, and updates will continue over the coming months, allowing players to experience the game’s remaining content and spend any premium currency before the shutdown.
Once the service ends, player account data will eventually be deleted and will no longer be accessible.
A Celebration of the Final Fantasy 7 Universe
Originally released on mobile devices in September 2023 before arriving on Steam later that year, Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis aimed to retell and expand the entire Final Fantasy 7 saga.
The game covered multiple entries from the franchise, including Crisis Core, Before Crisis, Advent Children, and Dirge of Cerberus, while also introducing The First Soldier, a new storyline exploring Sephiroth’s early years before the events of the original game.
Its ambitious approach made it one of Square Enix’s largest mobile RPG projects, combining classic stories with newly created narrative content.
Another Live-Service Closure for Square Enix
The announcement follows several recent service changes from Square Enix as the publisher continues to streamline its portfolio. Among them is the previously announced shutdown of several Kingdom Hearts cloud versions, which are scheduled to end service in June 2027 as native Nintendo Switch versions are planned to replace them, with discounts offered to existing owners.
For now, players still have until October 6 to complete the remaining events, revisit the game’s story, and use any remaining Red Crystals before the servers permanently go offline.
Meanwhile, fans of the franchise can also look ahead to Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, which is currently scheduled to launch in Spring 2027.
