After years of silence from Ubisoft, a new leak is giving fans their clearest look yet at what Far Cry 7 could become. If the latest claims are accurate, the next entry in the long-running franchise may be one of the biggest departures the series has ever seen.
Far Cry fans have been waiting since the release of Far Cry 6 in 2021, making this the longest gap between mainline games. While Ubisoft has yet to officially reveal the next installment, fresh information from a well-known Ubisoft dataminer has reignited discussion across the community.
Leak Points to an Extraction Shooter
According to Ubisoft dataminer RogueTX, Far Cry 7 is being designed around a PvE/PvP extraction shooter experience rather than the traditional open-world formula the series is known for.
The leak claims players will have 72 in-game hours to rescue their family from a hostile faction known as the Sons of Truth. Earlier rumors have suggested the group’s leader could be portrayed by actor Cillian Murphy, although Ubisoft has never confirmed that claim.
If accurate, the game would also introduce several mechanics not commonly associated with Far Cry, including:
- PvE and PvP extraction gameplay
- A time-limited objective spanning 72 hours
- Safehouses that players can use throughout the campaign
- The return of weapon durability
Weapon durability has historically divided players whenever it appears in games, making its rumored inclusion one of the more controversial aspects of the leak.
A Traditional Campaign May Still Be Included
Following questions from fans, RogueTX later clarified that Far Cry 7 is still expected to include a full single-player campaign alongside its extraction mode.
That could ease concerns for longtime fans who prefer the series’ story-driven experiences over multiplayer-focused gameplay. However, it’s still unclear how closely the campaign would resemble previous Far Cry titles or how heavily the extraction mechanics would influence progression.
Ubisoft Has Yet to Confirm Anything
As with all leaks, these details should be treated as unconfirmed until Ubisoft officially reveals the project.
The company has remained silent on Far Cry 7, and no announcement or release window has been provided. While RogueTX has previously shared Ubisoft-related information, none of these reported features have been verified by the publisher.
If the leak proves accurate, Far Cry 7 could represent the franchise’s most significant gameplay shift since the series embraced its modern open-world formula over a decade ago.
