The upcoming Pokémon Trading Card Game: 30th Celebration expansion is already generating excitement, but GameStop has found itself at the center of controversy after reports surfaced that one of its upcoming products could be listed at more than three times its suggested retail price.
Images shared on social media have sparked backlash from Pokémon collectors, many of whom accuse the retailer of taking advantage of the continued demand for Pokémon cards.
$600 Price Tag Sparks Community Outrage
According to images shared by PokeTCGAlerts and Joe Merrick of Serebii, GameStop’s internal pricing system reportedly lists the Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration Ultra-Premium Collection: Day & Night at $600.
If accurate, that would place the product more than three times higher than its reported $180 MSRP.
The images appear to show GameStop price labels being prepared months before the product’s expected launch, suggesting the pricing information was entered well ahead of release.
Product Won’t Launch Until November
Although the Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration expansion launches in September, the Ultra-Premium Collection: Day & Night box is currently expected to arrive later, on November 6.
Because the product is still months away, it’s possible the reported pricing is only an early placeholder or internal listing rather than the final retail price. Neither GameStop nor The Pokémon Company has publicly commented on the reported price at the time of writing.
Pokémon Card Demand Continues to Create Problems
The Pokémon Trading Card Game remains one of the strongest-performing collectibles on the market, with demand continuing to outpace supply for many premium releases.
That popularity has also fueled widespread scalping, inflated resale prices, and even thefts targeting Pokémon cards worldwide. Retailers frequently struggle to keep high-demand products in stock, while third-party marketplaces often list sealed products well above MSRP shortly after release.
If GameStop ultimately confirms a $600 retail price, it would likely become one of the most controversial Pokémon TCG product launches in recent memory.
For now, collectors may want to wait for official confirmation before making purchasing decisions, as pricing for unreleased products can sometimes change before launch.
