Many fans want GTA 6 to run at 60 FPS on consoles. A new rumor now claims Rockstar Games is working toward that goal. If the report proves accurate, PS5 and Xbox Series X players could choose between better visuals or smoother gameplay.
Rockstar has not confirmed any graphics modes yet. Until then, players should treat this information as a rumor.
GTA 6 Could Launch With Two Graphics Modes
The Rock and Borys podcast claims Rockstar Games is testing two graphics modes for GTA 6 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
Players could reportedly choose between:
- Quality Mode: 30 FPS with higher graphical settings.
- Performance Mode: 60 FPS with reduced visual settings to improve performance.
The source says Rockstar still needs to finish its work on the feature. Because of that, the studio could release the 60 FPS mode after launch instead of on day one.
Earlier PS5 Pro Rumors May No Longer Be True
Previous reports claimed only the PS5 Pro could run GTA 6 at 60 FPS. Those rumors also suggested Sony engineers helped Rockstar optimize the game for the upgraded console.
The latest report tells a different story. It claims Rockstar now wants to bring the same performance mode to both the standard PS5 and Xbox Series X.
Rockstar has not commented on either report.
MediaMarkt Listing Adds More Speculation
The podcast also highlighted an earlier MediaMarkt listing. That listing reportedly mentioned both a Performance Mode and a Quality Mode.
Retailers sometimes receive marketing information before launch. However, listings can also contain mistakes. For that reason, players should not treat the listing as official confirmation.
Xbox Series S May Stay at 30 FPS
The rumor also mentions the Xbox Series S.
According to the source, Rockstar currently targets 30 FPS for Microsoft’s smaller console. The studio has not completely ruled out a performance mode. However, the report says Rockstar has not finalized those plans.
Why GTA 6 Running at 60 FPS Is Difficult
GTA 6 features a massive open world with advanced AI, heavy traffic, detailed physics, and large numbers of NPCs. Those systems place a heavy load on modern hardware.
Because of that, Rockstar faces a difficult challenge. The studio must balance graphics, world simulation, and frame rate at the same time.
Several industry experts and a former Rockstar developer have already explained why GTA 6 pushes current consoles so hard. A 30 FPS quality mode remains the easiest way to preserve the game’s visual quality.
A 60 FPS performance mode would likely lower some graphics settings to deliver smoother gameplay.
Rockstar Games has not officially revealed the console graphics modes for GTA 6. Until then, fans should treat every report about 60 FPS as speculation.
