Call of Duty Ports May Not Stop at Black Ops as Modern Warfare Leaks Surface

Activision has already confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 are making their way to PlayStation consoles, but it appears the publisher may not be finished revisiting older entries in the franchise. Fresh database discoveries now suggest that Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3 could be next in line.

Black Ops Returns to PlayStation in July

Earlier this month, Activision announced that the original Black Ops and Black Ops 2 will launch on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in July through a partnership with Iron Galaxy. Rather than full remasters, both games are being released as straightforward ports, meaning players should expect the classic experience with only minimal technical improvements, such as higher rendering resolutions.

Pricing has also been confirmed. Each title will retail for $40, while a bundle containing both games will cost $80. Multiplayer DLC will not be included, with map packs expected to sell separately for around $10 each, while the Black Ops 2 Season Pass will reportedly be available for approximately $30.

Modern Warfare 2 and 3 Appear in PlayStation Database

Attention has now shifted to the Modern Warfare series after users spotted Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3 entries inside the Orbis Patches PlayStation database. Both listings reportedly include version 1.02 patch creation dates dating back to July 2025, indicating that PlayStation versions may have been in development—or at least prepared internally—for well over a year.

Activision has not acknowledged the listings, and there is currently no official release window for either title.

If the games do eventually launch, many fans expect Activision to follow the same approach used for Black Ops: direct ports rather than full remasters, similar pricing, and multiplayer DLC sold separately. However, those details remain purely speculative until Activision makes an announcement.

A Busy Time for Classic Call of Duty

The timing would make sense for Activision. Modern Warfare 2 remains one of the most beloved entries in the franchise thanks to its iconic campaign and multiplayer, while Modern Warfare 3, despite receiving a more mixed reception from critics, still earned multiple industry awards, including a Best Shooter award in 2011.

With Activision also preparing the next major installment in the Modern Warfare series, bringing classic titles back to modern PlayStation hardware could help keep longtime fans engaged while introducing newer players to some of Call of Duty’s most influential releases.

For now, only the Black Ops ports are officially confirmed. Whether Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3 follow remains a waiting game, but the latest database discoveries have certainly fueled speculation.
