Hytale Modder Is Already Reshaping the Game to Look Like Minecraft

Hytale has only just entered early access, yet the modding community is already moving fast. One creator has begun transforming the game’s visual style to closely resemble Minecraft, drawing attention across the community and reigniting comparisons between the two sandbox titles.

The project highlights both the creativity of early modders and the long-term potential of Hytale’s modding ecosystem.

A Long Road to Early Access

Hytale’s launch follows nearly a decade of turbulent development. The project faced major delays, a full cancellation, a strong community backlash, and eventually a revival that brought the game back into active development.

Following its early access release, strong initial sales attracted a large player base. That momentum helped secure funding for the next two years, giving the developers room to continue expanding features, systems, and content.

The Minecraft-Inspired Mod

A Reddit user known as LucyLavend is currently working on a mod that removes much of Hytale’s visual detail, replacing it with a simpler, blockier aesthetic inspired by Minecraft.

The transformation is striking. In screenshots, the environments can look nearly identical to Minecraft at first glance, with Hytale’s interface often being the only clear giveaway.

The mod is still a work in progress. The creator has stated that a functional version will be released publicly once it reaches a more complete and stable state, with plans to upload it to CurseForge when ready.

Community Reactions and Ideas

The response from players has been largely positive and playful.

Some community members joked about a “reverse mod” that would instead make Minecraft look like Hytale. Others took the idea further, imagining a more ambitious concept involving portals, shared items, or crossover mechanics between both games.

At this stage, these ideas remain purely speculative, and the modder has not confirmed any plans beyond the visual overhaul.

Why This Fits Hytale’s Identity

Hytale’s rapid modding activity is not surprising. The game was born from the Hypixel Minecraft server and has long promoted a philosophy of being built “by modders, for modders.”

While Hytale’s mod ecosystem is still in its infancy, early projects like this one provide a glimpse into what could be possible as tools mature and creators gain more freedom.

For many players, the comparisons to Minecraft are less about competition and more about evolution—showing how deeply customizable sandbox games can become with a strong modding foundation.

Ongoing Development and What’s Next

Development on Hytale continues to move forward. Recent updates have already introduced new features, including a patch that added dinosaurs to tropical jungle biomes.

More updates, fixes, and content expansions are expected as early access progresses, especially as community feedback and mod experimentation continue to shape the game’s direction.

With modders already pushing creative boundaries, Hytale’s early access phase is quickly becoming a testing ground for what the game could eventually grow into.
