Starting Sunday, October 12, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. PDT, Pokémon GO players will gain access to a brand-new feature called Weekly Challenges. Trainers can now join forces with up to three others from anywhere in the world to tackle weekly tasks, earn rewards, and strengthen their Friendship levels together.
Discover the New Social Tab
A major addition to Pokémon GO’s interface, the Social tab, will now house both Weekly Challenges and Party Play.
From this new hub, Trainers can:
- Create a group for the week’s challenge
- Join an existing group via invitation
- Track group progress and time remaining
Each Trainer can only participate in one group per week and complete one weekly challenge before the next cycle begins.
Weekly challenges refresh every Sunday at 5:00 p.m. PDT and last until the following Sunday at 5:00 p.m. PDT.
Create or Join a Group
To participate, Trainers can create a group and invite up to three friends from anywhere in the world. Any group member can send out invitations, but each group is capped at four Trainers total.
If you receive an invite, you’ll have 24 hours to accept it before it expires.
Track Progress and Earn Rewards
Once grouped, Trainers can use the Social tab to monitor daily progress, overall completion, and time remaining.
Groups that complete the challenge within the timeframe will earn:
- 20,000 XP
- 6,000 Stardust
- Extra Friendship level progress
Even if your group doesn’t finish in time, you’ll still receive Stardust for your efforts.
Strengthen Bonds and Make New Friends
Weekly Challenges also encourage social connections — Trainers can become Friends with other group members they haven’t added yet. Completing a challenge applies extra Friendship progress to any new connections formed during the event.
Matchmaking Coming Later This Year
Niantic has confirmed that matchmaking for Weekly Challenges will arrive before the end of 2025, allowing Trainers to automatically form groups with other players in the community — even if they’re not already friends.
Pokémon GO continues to evolve its cooperative play systems, encouraging teamwork and friendship among Trainers worldwide.
As always, players are reminded to stay aware of their surroundings and follow local health guidelines while playing.
