Call of Duty: Warzone developer Raven Software has officially restored the traditional Battle Royale Solos mode today, June 26, following its unexpected removal last month. The decision to temporarily replace it with Battle Royale Casual Solos—a similar mode but heavily populated with bots—sparked widespread criticism from the Warzone community.
Raven Reverses Course After Fan Uproar
Raven Software originally justified the removal of Solos by stating that it was part of an effort to keep playlist offerings “focused and manageable.” The studio pointed to matchmaking concerns due to Warzone’s extensive variety of modes. Still, many players were upset by the change, claiming that bots in Casual Solos disrupted the game’s competitive integrity.
Despite the backlash, Raven remained firm—until now. A new official blog post confirms that both Battle Royale Solos and Battle Royale Casual Solos will now coexist in Warzone’s playlist rotation starting today. This move allows players to choose between authentic, all-human lobbies and more relaxed, bot-filled experiences.
Casual Solos Boosted Player Numbers
Interestingly, Activision claims that the addition of Casual Solos led to a threefold increase in Solo play. This spike in activity may have influenced the studio’s decision to keep both modes moving forward, catering to different player preferences.
However, Activision also revealed that Battle Royale Solos is the least-played playlist in Warzone. With the game offering numerous modes—ranging from Battle Royale Duos, Trios, and Quads, to Resurgence and limited-time playlists—the player base is often fragmented, impacting matchmaking speed.
Store Ads in the Class Menu Prompted Further Backlash
The removal of Solos wasn’t the only controversial change during Season 4. Shortly after the update launched, players discovered that store bundle advertisements were added to the “Create a Class” menu. This feature wasn’t included in the official patch notes, leading to speculation that it was deliberately hidden due to its intrusive nature.
Following community backlash, Activision quickly removed the ads and claimed their appearance was the result of an unintentional test deployment. While some fans remain skeptical, most welcomed their swift removal.
Resurgence Casuals Coming in Season 4 Reloaded
Looking ahead, Activision is expanding its Casual offerings. Season 4 Reloaded, launching Wednesday, July 2, will introduce a new Resurgence Casual mode. This version will feature 44-player lobbies mixing bots and human players, with limited stat tracking and progression impact—similar to Battle Royale Casuals.
Whether these dual-mode offerings will satisfy both casual and competitive players remains to be seen, but the return of Battle Royale Solos marks a significant win for those who prefer the original Warzone experience.
