GTA 6 Finally Fixes One of GTA 5’s Most Annoying Features

Grand Theft Auto 6 may be grabbing attention for its massive world, visuals, and ambitious gameplay systems, but one of its most welcome improvements could be something much smaller.

Rockstar Games appears to have finally made running less annoying.

According to details shared from a Rockstar North preview and reported by YouTuber MikeShowSha, GTA 6 allows players to toggle running by pressing the left analog stick. Instead of repeatedly pressing a button just to keep Lucia or Jason moving at speed, one click can reportedly keep the character running until the player stops or presses the stick again.

It sounds like a tiny change, but anyone who spent hundreds of hours playing GTA 5 will probably understand why it matters.

GTA 6 Running Will No Longer Destroy Your Thumb

For years, Rockstar’s control schemes have been notorious for making players repeatedly tap buttons to sprint.

At the original launch of GTA 5, players generally had to keep pressing the sprint button if they wanted their character to continue running quickly.

During long chases, missions, shootouts, or simply moving around Los Santos, that could become surprisingly tiring.

GTA 6 appears to avoid that problem from day one.

Pressing the left analog stick reportedly enables a sustained run for Lucia or Jason. The character will continue running until the player stops moving or toggles the option again.

No constant button-mashing required.

Considering how frequently players run around in a Grand Theft Auto game, this could easily become one of those small quality-of-life improvements that players quickly take for granted.

GTA 5 Eventually Improved Its Sprint Controls

Rockstar eventually introduced an alternative sprint control option to GTA 5, allowing players to use the left stick rather than constantly tapping a button.

However, that improvement arrived many years after the game’s original 2013 release.

GTA 6 seemingly launches with the more comfortable system already available.

That could be especially useful during combat encounters, police chases, robberies, and other situations where players constantly switch between walking and running.

A more convenient sprint system could also make GTA 6 considerably more comfortable during longer gameplay sessions.

More Control Options Could Still Be Available

The controls shown during previews are likely based on GTA 6’s default configuration.

Rockstar has not necessarily revealed every available control or accessibility option yet.

Modern games increasingly provide players with alternative input methods, accessibility settings, and customizable controls, so it would not be surprising if GTA 6 offers several ways to configure sprinting.

Players who prefer Rockstar’s traditional button-tapping system could therefore potentially still have that option.

For everyone else, the toggle system should make running considerably easier.

GTA 6 Leaks Are Already Causing Problems

Unfortunately for Rockstar and Take-Two, gameplay improvements are not the only GTA 6 details attracting attention.

Leaks surrounding the game continue to appear online as anticipation reaches extreme levels.

Early footage was reportedly leaked by someone with access to unreleased material, prompting Take-Two Interactive to take legal action in an attempt to identify those responsible.

The publisher has reportedly filed subpoenas seeking information that could help trace the source of the leak.

It highlights how aggressively Take-Two is attempting to protect GTA 6 before release.

Considering the enormous commercial expectations surrounding the game, even relatively small leaks can quickly spread across social media, YouTube, Reddit, Discord, and other platforms.

Rockstar Is Trying to Keep GTA 6 Under Control

GTA 6 has become one of the most closely watched game releases in history.

Almost every gameplay detail now generates discussion.

Something as simple as changing how players run can become major news because millions of players are already analyzing how Rockstar has improved systems from GTA 5.

At the same time, that attention creates another problem.

Any leaked footage or information can immediately spread worldwide.

Take-Two’s legal response suggests the company has little interest in allowing unauthorized information to circulate without consequences.

Small Improvements Could Make a Huge Difference

Much of the GTA 6 conversation understandably focuses on graphics, world size, characters, vehicles, physics, and Rockstar’s enormous production budget.

However, quality-of-life improvements could ultimately have just as much impact on how the game feels.

Players will sprint thousands of times throughout their GTA 6 experience.

Making that action easier might not sound revolutionary, but it removes an irritation players dealt with throughout much of GTA 5’s lifespan.

Instead of repeatedly attacking the sprint button with your thumb, GTA 6 apparently lets you click once and keep moving.

Sometimes the best improvements really are the simplest ones.

GTA 6 Hype Continues to Grow

Early impressions surrounding GTA 6 have increasingly praised the gameplay alongside its visuals.

Rockstar has also continued reassuring players about its release plans, with no additional delay currently announced.

Meanwhile, reports surrounding GTA 6’s enormous commercial potential continue to demonstrate just how large the launch could become, including claims that the game could generate around $1 billion within its first hour of availability.

Whether those extraordinary predictions become reality remains to be seen.

What is already becoming clearer is that Rockstar appears to be paying close attention to smaller gameplay frustrations alongside the massive features dominating GTA 6 marketing.

For players who spent years destroying their thumbs while sprinting through Los Santos, that alone might deserve applause.
