USV Rewards Elite Gamers With Scholarships Worth Up to $15,000 Per Year

Exceptional gaming achievements can now help pay for college. The University of Silicon Valley (USV) has introduced the Max Achievement Scholarship, a new merit-based program that rewards students who have completed some of gaming’s rarest and most demanding achievements.

Unlike traditional scholarships that focus on academics or competitive eSports, this program recognizes long-term dedication and difficult in-game accomplishments across both PC and console platforms.

Rare Achievements Can Lead to Real Scholarships

USV evaluates applicants based on achievements that demonstrate exceptional commitment. The university reviews rare trophies, difficult completion milestones, and long-term progression alongside the student’s standard application.

The scholarship aims to recognize gaming as a legitimate extracurricular accomplishment when it reflects skill, persistence, and dedication over hundreds of hours.

Two Scholarship Tiers Available

The Max Achievement Scholarship offers two award levels.

Mastery Tier

Students who qualify for the Mastery tier can receive up to $2,500 per academic term. With three terms each year, the maximum annual award reaches $7,500.

This tier generally targets achievements with global completion rates between 1% and 5%.

Legendary Tier

The Legendary tier offers up to $5,000 per term, allowing students to earn as much as $15,000 per year.

To qualify, applicants are expected to demonstrate sustained mastery. This usually means investing more than 500 hours into a game while earning achievements completed by less than 1% of players worldwide.

Scholarship Restrictions

USV already offers an eSports scholarship, but students cannot combine it with the Max Achievement Scholarship.

However, the Max Achievement Scholarship can be combined with other university merit awards, provided the total financial aid remains within the institution’s overall scholarship limits.

Gaming Continues to Gain Academic Recognition

The Max Achievement Scholarship reflects a growing shift in how universities view gaming. Instead of rewarding only tournament competitors, the program also acknowledges players who have invested significant time mastering challenging games and unlocking achievements that only a tiny percentage of players ever obtain.

While gaming achievements alone will not replace traditional admission requirements, USV’s initiative gives dedicated players another opportunity to turn years of effort into meaningful financial support for higher education.
