Palworld 1.0 brings players back in huge numbers as Steam charts explode

After spending two years in early access, Palworld has officially reached version 1.0, and the full release is already proving to be a major success. Thousands of returning players have jumped back into the survival game, pushing it near the top of Steam’s most-played titles despite ongoing legal pressure surrounding the project.

While the game’s all-time launch record still remains untouched, the 1.0 update has given Palworld a second life and shows there is still plenty of interest in Pocketpair’s creature-catching survival adventure.

Palworld 1.0 adds new content across the board

The full release introduces a wide range of new content designed to complete the game’s core experience. Players can explore additional islands, discover brand-new Pals, craft new weapons, and experience numerous gameplay improvements that have been developed throughout the early access period.

Pocketpair also advised returning players to consider starting a fresh save file. Doing so allows them to experience the new progression and world changes as intended rather than continuing from an older world.

Steam player count surges past 850,000

The update immediately attracted a massive audience. Just two days after launch, Palworld reached a peak of more than 850,000 concurrent players on Steam, making it one of the platform’s biggest games over the weekend.

The game also maintains an impressive 93.41% positive user rating on Steam, showing that players have responded well to the full release.

Although concurrent player numbers have naturally declined slightly after the initial launch rush, Pocketpair has not revealed how many players have joined through PlayStation 5 or Xbox Game Pass, meaning the total player count is likely much higher.

Still below the original launch, but ahead of recent releases

The 1.0 launch does not surpass Palworld’s incredible early access debut in January 2024, when it reached more than 2.1 million concurrent players on Steam alone.

Even so, the latest release comfortably outperformed several recent launches. Its 850,000-player peak sits far ahead of titles such as Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, which peaked at 104,756 concurrent players, and Meccha Chameleon, which reached 340,534 players during its first day.

That performance highlights how much interest still surrounds Palworld despite having been available for more than two years.

Pocketpair keeps the price low despite full release

Many developers increase a game’s price once it leaves early access, but Pocketpair decided against doing so.

Palworld continues to carry its $29.99 retail price, while a 30% Steam discount lowers the cost to $20.99 until July 23. Keeping the game affordable likely helped encourage both new players and returning fans to jump into version 1.0.

Nintendo lawsuit hasn’t slowed Palworld down

Despite its successful launch, Palworld continues to face legal challenges.

Nintendo’s ongoing lawsuit over certain game features remains active, but so far it has not appeared to affect player interest or the commercial performance of the full release. Instead, the strong Steam numbers suggest many players remain focused on the game’s new content rather than the legal battle surrounding it.

The future now depends on post-launch support

Version 1.0 has given Palworld an impressive boost, but maintaining that momentum will be the next challenge.

With hundreds of thousands of players returning and reviews remaining overwhelmingly positive, Pocketpair has established a strong foundation for the game’s future. Whether those players continue to stick around will largely depend on future updates, new content, and how the studio supports Palworld in the months ahead.
