Nintendo has rolled out a new system update for both the original Nintendo Switch and the Switch 2. Version 21.0.1, released on November 24, focuses primarily on stability improvements and bug fixes rather than new features. With the Switch 2 continuing to expand its user base after its June 5 launch, this update arrives at an important moment for both systems.
What the Update Fixes
Transfer Error Resolved on Both Systems
Nintendo addressed a persistent issue affecting users performing local system transfers from a Switch to a Switch 2. The update fixes recurring error codes 2011-0301 and 2168-0002, which previously interrupted the transfer process for some players.
Improved Wireless Connectivity on Switch 2
Switch 2 users also receive a targeted fix for wireless peripherals. Certain wireless controllers and Bluetooth audio devices were failing to reconnect after Sleep Mode or when toggling Airplane Mode off. Version 21.0.1 corrects this behavior to ensure more reliable pairing.
General Stability Improvements
As with many Nintendo updates, additional “general system stability improvements” are included. While not detailed further, these updates typically address background performance and hardware communication issues.
Why the Timing Matters
System updates normally download automatically, but users who want to confirm their version can do so through the System Settings menu.
The release arrives just after the launch of Kirby Air Riders (November 20), a Switch 2 exclusive, and just ahead of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, scheduled for December 4. With new high-profile titles increasing system demand, the update may help ensure smoother performance during a busy holiday period.
Nintendo may still push additional updates before the end of the year, especially with the growing Switch 2 install base and several major software releases driving increased usage.
