Sega has officially announced that the SpongeBob SquarePants DLC for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will launch on November 19, 2025, at 5 PM PT. The new content introduces SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star as playable racers, along with the Bikini Bottom track, a Patty Wagon vehicle, and six emotes for each character. The update also brings new SpongeBob-inspired music, giving players a fun and nostalgic crossover experience.
The DLC will be available as Wave 2 of the season pass or can be purchased separately for those who prefer standalone content.
Upcoming Free Racers: NiGHTS, AiAi, and More
In addition to the SpongeBob crossover, Sega revealed several free character updates arriving before and after the year’s end:
- December 2025: NiGHTS joins the roster, featuring the Dream Sleeper vehicle. This character first appeared in the 1996 classic Nights into Dreams, and their inclusion marks a welcome return for longtime Sega fans.
- January 2026: AiAi from Super Monkey Ball speeds into the race with the Banana Cruiser vehicle.
- February 2026: Tangle and Whisper, two popular Sonic universe characters, will also join the playable lineup. Their specific vehicles have not yet been announced.
A Bright Future for Sega’s Expanding Racer
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has built its reputation on delivering crossover experiences that pull from across Sega’s franchises—and even beyond. While comparisons to Mario Kart World are inevitable, Sega’s racer continues to distinguish itself by embracing creative crossovers and fan-favorite collaborations.
Sega also confirmed that the game will arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2 before the end of 2025, which could open the door for even more players. Furthermore, the company teased future DLC featuring Pac-Man, Mega Man, and other yet-to-be-revealed franchises.
With Sega actively seeking fan input on future additions, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds seems poised for long-term support and a growing roster of iconic characters.
