Treyarch Responds to Feedback with Major Beta Update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7

Treyarch Studios has wasted no time addressing community feedback for the Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 beta. Just days after early access began on October 2, the developer released a new patch with more substantial changes scheduled for this weekend. Among the biggest updates are adjustments to time-to-kill (TTK), doors, weapon XP, spawn logic, and stability.

Early Access and Open Beta Details

Players eager to test Black Ops 7 can access the beta through several methods. The open beta officially begins on October 5 for all players, but those who pre-ordered the game already have early access. Additionally, fans can gain beta entry through promotional partners such as Xfinity in the U.S. or EE in the U.K., or by watching select Twitch streams for a limited duration.

Time-to-Kill and Weapon Balancing

The Black Ops 7 beta launched with a TTK similar to Black Ops 6, but many players felt it was slightly faster than ideal. In response, Treyarch confirmed a new weapon balance pass will arrive this weekend to adjust TTK and ensure every weapon performs competitively within its intended class.

According to the developer, this tuning will make the 30 launch weapons “balanced and fun to use” while maintaining fair engagement times across different weapon types.

Door Mechanics Overhauled

Doors have become another major discussion point in the beta. While Black Ops 7 removed manual doors seen in previous entries, automatic doors introduced new frustrations for players. To address this, Treyarch is implementing several changes:

  • Specific automatic doors will remain open from the start of a match.
  • The duration that doors stay open before closing will be increased.
  • The activation distance for opening doors will also be expanded.

Only five of the game’s 16 launch maps feature automatic doors, and the studio is considering reducing that number further after additional testing. There are also plans to add a toggle option for disabling automatic doors in Private Matches.

Weapon XP, Overclock Rates, and Spawns

To help players test more gear and attachments, Treyarch will increase Weapon XP and Overclock earn rates in the upcoming weekend patch. Spawn logic will also be refined to improve consistency across various maps and modes.

The team confirmed the following adjustments are planned for the next update:

  • Increased Weapon XP earn rate
  • Increased Overclock earn rate for Loadout items and Scorestreaks
  • Improved spawn logic for better flow and positioning
  • Various bug fixes impacting weapons and performance

Gravemaker Scorestreak Remains Untouched

One element that won’t see immediate changes is the Gravemaker scorestreak, a powerful reward that can see enemies through walls and eliminate them instantly. While many players have called for a nerf, Treyarch appears content to leave it as-is during the beta to gather more data.

Stability and UI Fixes

The latest patch also resolves multiple issues related to server stability, menu navigation, and user interface errors. Specifically, it fixes a Steam issue where social menus closed automatically, login delays, and loadout-related crashes.

Treyarch’s quick response to player feedback demonstrates its commitment to refining Black Ops 7 before launch. As the beta continues, fans can expect additional balance passes and improvements in the days ahead.

See you in the lobby — and good luck against the undead.
