Treyarch Studios has confirmed major changes to the weapon camo system in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, significantly reducing the grind compared to previous titles. Players will now need fewer headshots to unlock all nine military camos per weapon, along with a more consistent progression path.
Fewer Headshots Needed for Unlocks
In Black Ops 6, players had to land 100 headshots per weapon before moving on to special and mastery camo challenges, making the grind notoriously tedious. Black Ops 7 is cutting that requirement down to 80 headshots per weapon.
Progression is also being streamlined. The first camo unlocks after just five headshots, with every additional camo earned at ten headshot intervals. This change ensures that players see more frequent rewards and steady progress throughout their gameplay.
Weapon-Specific Challenges
Not every weapon will rely on headshots in the new system. Treyarch confirmed that:
- Shotguns will now require Point Blank Kills.
- Sniper Rifles will require One Shot Kills.
These adjustments are designed to better reflect the strengths of each weapon type while keeping the grind engaging without being overwhelming.
More Special Camos and Cross-Mode Unlocks
Black Ops 7 is also expanding the system with three special camos per weapon instead of two, though they will remain tied to individual weapons. In a franchise first, weapon camos can now be unlocked across multiple modes, including:
- Co-Op Campaign
- Multiplayer
- Zombies
- Warzone (beginning in Season 1)
This cross-mode integration ensures players are rewarded for their time no matter which part of the game they prefer.
