Some participants in the Xbox Insiders program have reported that their consoles suddenly stopped working after the latest update, with many unable to access their device or play games. The error, identified as 0x8B050033, began appearing on September 2 and has since caused frustration among early testers.
The Xbox Insiders program is designed to give players early access to upcoming features and updates, but it often comes with the risk of bugs. This latest incident is being described as one of the most disruptive in recent memory.
How to Fix the Issue
Fortunately, there is a workaround for players affected by the problem:
- Sign in to the Microsoft account registered in the Xbox Insiders program.
- Launch the Xbox Insider Hub.
- Go to Settings → Manage Device.
- Remove your console from the Xbox Insiders program.
This should allow affected players to perform a factory reset and reapply system updates, restoring normal functionality.
Microsoft is expected to roll out a permanent fix soon, but players encountering the error can use this method to regain access in the meantime.
Not the First Xbox Outage in Recent Months
This isn’t the only issue to affect Xbox players recently. In the last few months alone, several glitches and outages have surfaced:
- August outage – The Xbox network went down temporarily, leaving players unable to send invites, messages, or access online features.
- July update glitch – A bug forced consoles to update every installed game. While the games still worked normally, the glitch was believed to be tied to license validation issues.
- Party Chat problems – An earlier failure prevented some users from accessing Xbox Party Chat and other social features, disrupting online play with friends.
Despite these setbacks, Xbox generally maintains reliable system updates and online services. Most issues are resolved quickly, but this latest Insiders bug highlights the risks of participating in early-access programs.
